If I am correctly informed the .NRG format is either compatible or just an alias for .ISO. I know for a fact that tools that never heard of .NRG can burn these files perfectly after renaming to .ISO Forget that, there seems to be a slight difference --RobIII 15:45, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I coud burn a NRG image with InfraRecorder, check it ut. --Ordago

.NRG is a file format used by Nero, although Daemon tools and PowerISO can burn and edit these file types.--77.98.46.49 20:09, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your point being? And DAEMON Tools can't burn NRGs since DTools isn't a burning application. —Vanderdeckenξφ 09:17, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It seems not all values are unsigned in the file format. I've noticed that some tracks (lead in) in the cue sheet chunks have negative offsets. — Hellcoder 18:58, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does NRG support subchannels? 195.3.113.180 (talk) 08:51, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Suggested addition

I don't know where to add the following or even if it has its place on wikipedia... Since NRG files are ISO images preceded by a header, linux mount command can mount NRG images thanks to command mount -o loop,offset=307200 image.nrg targetdirectory —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.56.75.108 (talk) 17:35, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed! More recent versions of Nero seem to use a different file structure of the nrg format directly based on ISO. Applications like VirtualBox however detect incorrect sizes for an pure iso and hence refuse loading them. Removing the nrg footer (less than 512 byte if i remember right) however fixes the behavior. --78.53.87.214 (talk) 17:43, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Confirmed too! The article should be modified - more recent .nrg files may actually be iso9660 type so that ubuntu's archive manager reads it directly when renamed to .iso! So the statement that .nrg is always a proprietary format of Nero is NOT true!! GrAndrew (talk) 08:04, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just running through the code, but looking at the DAOX chunk, the size of the ISRC section is only 8 bytes, not 12. When parsing through the track sub-chunks the mis-alignment by 4 bytes causes horrible data errors. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.169.10.78 (talk) 13:51, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The source code for libdiscmage has this much better documented here —Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.16.234.113 (talk) 10:41, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notability and overly detailed

[edit]

Removing notability and overly detailed tags. The measure of notability of a file format is the list of programs which can read/write it. And the one provided in the article is quite extensive. And the description of a file format is useless without the provided details. If someone searches for the .nrg format he is either interested to find a program which can read it or how to read it (that's why the implementations details are important) and this article covers both cases.
