"Can be caused by STATINS!"
[edit]This does not appear to be the most encyclopedia-formatted set of edits in the world, yielding:
- Can be caused by STATINS| Citation:BMJ 2010;340:c2197
...but the info, if legit, looks like it should be in the article. Can a subject matter expert review/edit/reformat? Thanks, --NapoliRoma (talk) 21:32, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
FDA warns for Simvastatin June 2011
[edit]After what doctors characterize as a 10 year delay in recognizing Simvastatin myopathological effects, the FDA today is headlined in national press warning for these possible effects of Simvastatin use. (It apparently is widely used, and in Sweden is the first choice statin in general practice). See further http://healthland.time.com/2011/06/09/fda-restricts-use-of-high-doses-of-cholesterol-lowering-drug-zocor/?xid=healthland-daily
This, I feel is a major matter:
1) Compared to the frequency, I presume, of congenital and acquired myopathy, this is a widely used drug by large population groups, and thus may be a major health concern. Thus it is in the public interest that this need for information be met.
2) While no connection is described in the FDA notice, one can from a layman's POV regard with suspicion Simvastatin's possible effect vis-a-vis cardiomyopathy. Which is of course a problem with mortality links, compared to skelett-musculopathy.
(On an episodic level, I stopped using it for 8 years ago after six months incapacitating use, due to pain when standing, etc. Have used Atorvastatin since with no side effects and better effect on cholesterol levels.) -- Idealist707 (talk) 21:25, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
