Whatever one may think of the title given to Lord Nelson's own article, surely this one can be made more concise, just Monuments and memorials to Lord Nelson? We all know which Lord Nelson it's referring to (indeed, even more so that if we use the awkward expanded name+title as we currently do).--Kotniski (talk) 09:09, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

One omission (perhaps has been overlooked) is a statue of Nelson I recall seeing in 1993 on or near Southsea Common. I recall the statue was of him as a young and then unmaimed naval officer, and the plinth bore a plaque with the text of the prayer for victory at Trafalgar he wrote that was found after his death. It would be visible to users local to Portsmouth who could check this out and take a picture. I believe the statue may have been more recent than most of those mentioned in this article.Cloptonson (talk) 11:44, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think you're talking about this one.[[1]] Normally I'd be happy to make a trip there for a photo but area is currently tier 4. I think User:Jaguar is a Pompey boy.--Ykraps (talk) 14:41, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
BTW That link you sent is to Portland and Weymouth, I have not been to those places.Cloptonson (talk) 14:47, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think that issue is now fixed. Sorry about that.--Ykraps (talk) 14:51, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You might need to purge your page.--Ykraps (talk) 14:54, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, my read brought back memories but clearly I misremembered how he physically looked. Clearly it has since been moved from where it was when I saw it. Only thing the page does not mention is when it was erected.Cloptonson (talk) 15:19, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have also been sent a link by another user to a page by Historic England, giving listing details. I have written the statue into the article with that as the citation. This will make a good start for others to develop.Cloptonson (talk) 15:48, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It might be a bit difficult but I'll see if I can take a picture of the statue when I'm nearby in the new year. ♦ jaguar 17:33, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have a couple of photos of it on my phone from when I visited the area last summer. I'll try and upload them to Commons. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:40, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Cloptonson, Ykraps, and Jaguar: I uploaded my three mediocre phone shots and then found that the statue already has a category on Commons, which contains 10 other images, several of which are much better. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:03, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If only we'd thought to check Commons first. :) --Ykraps (talk) 10:15, 1 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
