No bracelets?
[edit]I was pretty certain he got a WSOP bracelet, defeating Phil Helmuth. He successfully bluffed him a few hands earlier - meaning what should have been another Matusow Meltdown didn't come off. Was the 3rd player the quite Texan guy that Helmuth despises, always accusing of getting lucky? Stevage 14:59, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Matusow has two WSOP bracelets, as noted in the article. The event you speak of was the Tournament of Champions, which is not a 'bracelet' event; it's a special invite-only tournament. SubSeven 18:49, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, ta, yeah I was a bit totally confused when I wrote that. Is that factoid worth mentioning in the article? Stevage 12:31, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- It is already in there. :) SubSeven 18:35, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Mental health issues
[edit]Mike has spoken openly of his mental health issues; worth including in the article?
Oops, forgot to sign again. Otto4711 13:05, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- Depends on the source, I suspect. Essexmutant 16:35, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- He's talked about it in bumpers for the WSOP, I believe he talked about it in a Cardplayer interview after he got out of prison and he made a throwaway reference in a recent ep of High Stakes Poker. It's documented, i'm just wondering if it's noteworthy.Otto4711 16:54, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
NPOV/Sources
[edit]All the information I added in my edit [1] is from the interview with Matusow that is referenced in the References section at the bottom of the page. As this is from Matusow himself I hardly think NPOV comes into it; and I have identified the source already. Essexmutant 18:30, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- I removed the source tag since that was obviously inappropriate. Essexmutant, I suggest you remove the NPOV tag given what you wrote above. If someone else wants to bring up a POV specific, then that should be done here. 2005 20:36, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- Seems fair to me. Done. Essexmutant 20:50, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
Contradiction with 2005 WSOP article?
[edit]The account of Matusow's outcome at the 2005 WSOP in the Arrest and Release sections seems to contradict the final results in the 2005 WSOP article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ghosts&empties (talk • contribs)
- Sorry I'm not sure how. Can you clarify please? Essexmutant 16:48, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
On hold
[edit]Hi all,
There is one change needed to the article before it becomes a good article. The sentence "Fento got Matusow involved in money laundering and also asked him to score drugs for him." needs to be changed to "Matusow claims Fento got him involved in money laundering..." or "Journalist Michael Kaplan claims Fento got Matusow involved in money laundering..." or something equivalent. The problem is the sentence seems to suggest Fento might have induced into laundering money. Unless there is a really good source to verify this, it should be presented as an opinion.

- Thanks for pointing this out. I have made this change. Essexmutant 16:49, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not going to revert it, but FWIW, there isn't any reason this should've been changed based on some assumption of "fairness" or that the claim as it was suggested antying that doesn't go on as a regular matter of course.
The threshold for entrapment in the United States is entirely different than it is in the rest of the planet. We are the only country in the free world where the crime can be conceived and elicited by Law Enforcement officials without any entrapment concerns if they can get a jury to believe "predisposition" (see almost the entire case history of the BATF for more reading). Matter of fact, it is so par for the course with US Federal law enforcement officials that I wouldn't have any problem with "eliciting the crime" being an assumption from the outset whenever they are involved. Again, I won't revert this, but for the sake of clarity and full disclosure, there really wasn't any reason it should've been changed. --FactsAndHonesty 18:48, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
I've brought this article to GA Review. Please see my rationale on that page, and feel free to support/oppose its delisting. -- Kicking222 16:39, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- I have now archived this discussion. The result of the discussion was no consensus to delist. The article therefore retains its good article status. The archived review can be found here. Geometry guy 21:30, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Steve Dannenmann -- busted him in 2005 ME now they're friends
[edit]http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Steve_Dannenmann "On the way to second place, he knocked out 1994 WSOP champion Russ Hamilton and Mike Matusow. Since the Main Event, he was tutored in poker by Matusow, with whom he has become good friends..." this Youtube video seems to confirm that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pm_h6h5gIpg ... any thoughts where to mention the "tutoring the guy who cost him 4 and a half million bucks" piece of trivia? 199.214.28.241 18:34, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

The Mouthpiece
[edit]I believe Mike is currently still hosting the show on Cardplayer TV, it's not only posted during the WSOP. I'm not sure how this would fit in the article, but it should be included. Klinkman 00:11, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Are self-referenced claims about gambling winnings verifiable?
[edit]"Early in his career, he won 51 out of 53 sessions and $250,000. (It was first believed that he had won 81 out of 82, but he corrected that statement on the Rounders Poker Show.)" Since these are claimed by Matusow alone, how is there any verification here? 174.146.255.243 (talk) 18:32, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- I vaguely recall questioning the old assertion a good while back. It certainly sounds like a bunch of baloney to me. ♣♦ SmartGuy ♥♠ (talk) 00:08, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- Agree with the above two comments. This information should be removed unless it can be verified by a third party. I have noticed in many Wikipedia poker articles that information which would be quickly removed from other articles as non-verifiable is allowed to stay in a poker article because the poker player in question asserted it's true. See Dutch Boyd and the argument about his 170 IQ or whatever he said it was. Mike Matusow is a convicted drug dealer and Dutch Boyd is a known thief, yet the poker fans not only glorify them but are willing to accept anything they say as fact. 70.4.243.55 (talk) 08:04, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
External link to the Hendon Mob
[edit]I was surprised to find my link to Matusow's profile on the Hendon Mob website had been deleted on the basis that the notes contained references to the site already. Well true, they do, but the notes should be supplemental to an article not drive the content. I would contend that all poker players should have a link to their Hendon Mob profile and the External Links section is the correct place to put it. By all means reduce other links to specific tourneys in the notes but why not provide the reader with the obvious link where s/he expects it instead of requiring they wade through the small print. I'm not interested in editing wars but would appreciate anyone's comments agreeing or disagreeing. TheMathemagician (talk) 02:42, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- It is the guideline for all articles of the encyclopedia that references should not be duplicated in external links. 2005 (talk) 03:21, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
not sure where else to put this but matusow started playing poker before he was a dealer. unless he's lying in the book he just wrote. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.230.218.131 (talk) 07:29, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
