Mileages from the 1899 map

[edit]

Going north-south, there are 20 blocks to a mile. Distances between avenues are given on Talk:Commissioners' Plan of 1811. The distances on the map appear to be per track, and all (?) lines were double tracked.

  • 34th Street Ferry Branch of 23rd Street Crosstown Line, 1.40 mi: (23rd Street) 2nd Avenue - 28th and 29th Streets - 1st Avenue (34th Street)
  • 34th Street Crosstown Line, 1.74 mi: (Hudson River) 34th Street (10th Avenue) - (Broadway) 34th Street (Lexington Avenue)

It appears that the Chambers Street and Grand Street Ferry Railroad built the Chambers and Madison Streets Line: [1] - but I can't find anything about a lease or merger. --NE2 20:38, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
