Needs a rewrite
[edit]The article's current tone is quite unencyclopedic. I have already rewritten the first few paragraphs to remove the worst examples. We should not use words such as "boasted" to describe someone's conduct, especially not if the sources use a more neutral language. Compare WP:Words to avoid.
Part of the information in the article is contradictory. The New York Times information about possible sentences seems outdated when compared with the plea deal information from the New York Daily News. And we seem to have multiple different numbers for the amount of funds he actually earned by his schemes.
In parts, the article was much too detailed. For example, it's hardly relevant where exactly in Auschwitz Youlus claimed to have found a Torah scroll. Such information might be given in the investigarion section if it raised suspicion; otherwise I don't think we need that level of detail.
I also removed Category:Fraud and Category:Deception; they are much too general. Youlus should be placed in Category:American people convicted of fraud, but only when he has actually been convicted. None of the sources I read say he was; we may have to wait until June for that. Putting him into such categories prematurely may run afoul of WP:BLP. At the very least, we'd need a reliable source explicitly calling him a fraudster, and I believe they're more wishy-washy than that.
On a more technical note, we should use the standard citation templates for the references; I've already started on that and will look after the remaining references later. The list of external links might be shortened; some aren't all that relevant, and one duplicates a reference.
Finally, the article should probably be moved to Menachem Youlus. If there's no objection, I will request that move shortly (it needs admin help to get that page deleted in preparation of the move). Huon (talk) 03:23, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
