Doping

[edit]

A good article, if somewhat hagiographic. There is nothing on the drugs scandal in the 1998 Tour de France that Pantani won. This would seem to be of some relevance to the subject. Rollo

The above was blanked from this talk page, I'm not sure why. If it is no longer true, then it should have an answer saying something like "I've fixed this" or "seems to be better now", so that people (not least the person who posted the original comment) can see the outcome. Blank (as opposed to non-existent) discussion pages make me nervous, because I like to see what has previously been discussed. - IMSoP 14:38, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Ok mister IMSop, didn't mean to make anything bad, just wanted to clear a very old comment that was no more actual. But you may be true, I am quite new here so I'm sorry if I did something bad. So let's say the problem is now fixed because I inserted stuff about 1998 doping scandal. --Jmcmegamega 11:58, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I've added a link to main Tour de France entry article about doping scandals as a way of expanding the info. – Ricadus 02:04, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Height

Are you sure? If so, is google wrong? http://www.google.com/search?q=1.72m+in+in

1.72 meters = 67.7165354 in

68in == 5'8" right? AHands 7 July 2005 22:42 (UTC)

Yes it is, 5 times 12 = 60. Therefore 5'8" = 68 Mathmo 17:39, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images from other Wikipedias

[edit]

I was wondering how could we use images from other wikipedias: http://he.wiki.x.io/wiki/%D7%AA%D7%9E%D7%95%D7%A0%D7%94:Pantani_briancon_2000_2.jpg http://lb.wiki.x.io/wiki/Image:Marco_Pantani.jpg if I use:

It doesn't work. I thought it was possible to use images from other wikipedias. Should these images be in wikimedia to be able to share it with other wikipedias?-Drunt 11:55, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We can only use them on all projects if they are on Wikimedia Commons and this is a key reason we should try to put free images there rather than on Wikipedia servers. I would add them to Commons myself, but with both I am unable to find the source information: either it's not there or the language barrier is preventing me from finding it. If you can find the source information and permissions there is no reason why they shouldn't be at Commons. SeveroTC 12:40, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Then we better wait. A shame that there is no image of the Pirate riding or at least showing his face... Drunt 12:50, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am the one that put the Briancon photo on The Hebrew wiki. If you still want it, I can ask someone to put it in the commons (I don't know how to do it). I find this fhoto special because it captures the uniqe posture Pantani had while climbing.Tushyk (talk) 21:34, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That would be great. Wikimedia commons needs more photographs of Pantani (only one so far). I haven't used "wikimedia commons" lately, but following this steps could help you. Thanks for answering.Drunt (talk) 21:56, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The photo is in the commons now.Tushyk (talk) 19:59, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Autopsy

[edit]

In Matt Rendell's book, the question of whether the autopsy confirmed, or otherwise, Pantani's use of r-EPO, is addressed directly to Professor Fortuni, a lecturer in Forensic Medecine, who conducted the analysis of Pantani's corpse. He is unequivocal in stating that the autopsy did not provide proof one way or the other. Buffalo Bill talk to me 13:47, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Pantani morto.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion

[edit]

An image used in this article, File:Pantani morto.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion for the following reason: Wikipedia files with no non-free use rationale as of 21 September 2011

What should I do?

Don't panic; you should have time to contest the deletion (although please review deletion guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to provide a fair use rationale
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale, then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Deletion Review

language consistency

[edit]

In the article both haematocrit and hematocrit are used. I'm unsure of the version of english originally used to start this article, hence my apprehension to edit it. But I believe for the sake of consistency throughout the article, one of the two spellings should be picked and stayed with. Personally I'm in favour of haematocrit, since it appears first. Rufioh (talk) 17:11, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'd appreciate some input from other users before I change all references to this molecule in the article to either haematocrit or hematocrit. Rufioh (talk) 14:17, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If I were you I'd ask this question at Talk:Hematocrit or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine, as the people that watch this article are most likely cycling people. BaldBoris 20:24, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Funnily enough I just read "hematocrit" in a book about the 1998 Tour de France, so go with that. BaldBoris 22:03, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There's also inconsistency with -ise vs -ize spellings of words e.g. "rigged by Italian organised crime" and "The Memorial Marco Pantani has been organized annually". An -ise spelling appears before the first -ize spelling in the article, hence I'm also inclined to edit those to -ise spellings, unless anyone has a compelling reason not to. Rufioh (talk) 14:27, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've now tagged this article to use Use British English, so go with -ise. BaldBoris 20:24, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't been back to this page in a while, but since the page is tagged as British english, is "hematocrit" still correct to use, or should we use "haematocrit"? Alternatively, the page could be tagged as Canadian English, which would largely keep British spellings except for medical terms i.e. -ise spellings (although -ise is less common in Canada than -ize) and hematocrit (deleted because it would mean a change in the -ise spellings) rufiohtalksign 17:40, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
