Fair use rationale for Image:New Orleans Fleur de Lis.gif
[edit]Image:New Orleans Fleur de Lis.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Marc Haydel Morial /ˌmɔːriˈæl/ (born January 3, 1958) is an American political and civic leader and the current president of the National Urban League. Morial served as Mayor of New Orleans, from 1994 to 2002,[1] President of the United States Conference of Mayors in 2001 and Louisiana State Senator from 1991-1994[2].
Morial was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. After completing his undergraduate degree at University of Pennsylvania in1980 and receiving his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center in 1983[3], he began his career as a lawyer in New Orleans and in 1985 he established a private law practice there. In 1991, Morial was elected to the Louisiana State Senate where he served until 1994[2].
Morial was elected New Orleans Mayor in 1994 as the youngest mayor in 50 years and one of the youngest mayors ever of a major American city.[4]
As President of the National Urban League since 2003 he has been the primary catalyst for an era of change -- a transformation for the 110-year-old historic civil rights and urban advocacy organization.
His leadership has focused on elevating the healthy and economic disparities revealed by the COVID-19 Pandemic.[5] Under his leadership, the National Urban League has launched the initiative, the Urban League Fights For You, which provides support for communities in the areas of economics.[6]
Under his stewardship, the League had completed several initiatives in 2005 he launched a successful $250M fundraising campaign to rebrand and retool the NUL programs advocacy volunteers and affiliate relationships. As the recessions drove unemployment levels in urban communities into the double digits, the NUL under his leadership launched a historic $100 million, five year, “Jobs Rebuild America: Educate, Employ, Empower” initiative in 2011 – a solutions-based, comprehensive approach to the nation’s employment and education crisis that brings together federal government, business, and nonprofit resources to create economic opportunity in 50 cities across the country through the Urban League affiliate network[7].
His creativity has led to initiatives such as the Urban Youth Empowerment Program to assist young adults in securing sustainable jobs, and Entrepreneurship Centers in 12 cities to help the growth of small businesses. Also, Morial created the National Urban League Empowerment Fund, which has pumped almost $200 million into urban impact businesses including minority business through both debt and equity investments.[8]

- @Seagu11123: Thanks for responding. I'm new to this. I guess what I'm trying to do is add additional info and more up to date information. There are some areas where I can do a 'change x to y' edit. But may you please advise me on how to submit new info? Full disclosure, I am a paid editor for this page and looking to do it completely within COI guidelines. I just want to add up to date info to the page as it has not been updated in some years. With sources of course. Thank you for any help.

Intro section edit request
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello!
The intro section says he was Senator from 1991-1994. He was elected in 1991 but served from 1992-1994 in the referenced article. Proposing to change to: "elected to Louisiana State Senate in 1991. He served until 1994."[1]
I am affiliated with Marc Morial and requesting the edit. If approved, do I make the edit myself or does someone have to do it for me? I'm trying to avoid any COI issues. Thank you. Nicolehardesty (talk) 16:21, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
- I made this minor change in a manner appropriate for the lead section, and cleaned up some brackets that linked to dead links. Go4thProsper (talk) 21:01, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Go4thProsper (talk! Could you help me with this? I'd like to move this statement and source from the Mayor of New Orleans section up to start a third paragraph of the intro section to serve as a part of an overall summary.
"He’s the youngest person elected Mayor of New Orleans in 50 years and at the time, one of the youngest mayors of a major American city."[2]
Thank you! Nicolehardesty (talk) 21:35, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi @Nicolehardesty: I have declined adding this to the lede because the source did not verify the information. The source states he was the city's youngest elected mayor. I think that information can be added to an expanded lede. Z1720 (talk) 20:50, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

Hello! Would like to include that Marc Morial served as Vice President of the Conference of Mayors.

In addition to his time as President, he also served as Vice President [1]
I'd just like to fit that in the existing list of positions. Thank you! Nicolehardesty (talk) 16:44, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
- Nicolehardesty, none of the references provided by you supports your claim that he served as Vice President of the Conference of Mayors. Also, follow the WP:EDITXY while requesting for edit. Chirota (talk) 06:27, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Chirota, Thank you for responding. I'm new to editing. Does that mean this source is not acceptable at all? There is a line in here that says "He became Vice-President of the Conference for 2000 to 2001, and went on to act as its President from 2001 to 2002." Just want to know for sure that this doesn't support the claim that he was Vice President. Thanks for your help Nicolehardesty (talk) 14:07, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Hello! Would like to include crime statistics while he was Mayor of New Orleans. This speaks to his effectiveness as a leader
-request to add statistic information-
- New paragraph after the first one.- "During his time as Mayor, in response to a high crime rate in the city [1], significant crime reform measures were implemented including a tough juvenile curfew. In five years, the violent crime fell by 50% making New Orleans a national leader in police reform."[2]

- Not done This information reads as too promotional of Morial's political success. - This change has been made as a relevant statistic from his time as mayor of New Orleans, but a better source should probably be cited to confirm this. As posted, the citation comes from the mayor’s own book, which shouldn’t be the source of a statistical claim like this. Interested editors are encouraged to identify a more appropriate and definitive source for this information. Perhaps Nicolehardesty can supply one that a non-COI editor can add as further verification of the crime statistic claim? Go4thProsper (talk) 12:30, 31 January 2022 (UTC)

Hello! I would like to include that during Marc Morial's time as mayor, New Orleans had two professional sports achievements. The acquisition of a NBA basketball team and hosting a Super Bowl.
-I'd like to add this new paragraph to the section-
In 2002 NBA basketball returned to the city after successful negotiations for the league's Charlotte Hornets to relocate there.[2] Secondly, following the September 11, 2001 attacks, Morial persuaded the organizers of National Automobile Dealers Association Convention to change its date so that Super Bowl XXXVI (held at the Louisiana Superdome) could be played one week later than originally scheduled, enabling the NFL to keep its post-season tournament fully intact. The week of regular-season games slated to be played on the weekend following the attacks had to be postponed and was transferred to the end of the regular season.[3]

- ^ ESPN. "Deal for Auto Dealers could be up to $12 million". ESPN.com.
- Not done: The cited sources do not directly corroborate the claims made in the edit request text. For example, the Associated Press/ESPN article simply discusses a potential deal. The second ESPN source (ref 3) does not mention September 11th, or example, and strongly implies that while Morial was kept updated on negotiations, they were fundamentally between other officials (e.g. "between Commissioner Tagliabue and Phil Brady"). Thus, Morial persuading the NADA seems to be a stretch based on the cited text. WhinyTheYounger (WtY)(talk, contribs) 02:44, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
