Merger proposal
[edit]There are two competing articles on what is essentially, on Wikipedia, the same subject--Loyalty Islands and Loyalty Islands Province. This could in theory be justified if one was about natural geography and the other about human geography and polities, but that is simply not the case right now, and it doesn't look like it could reasonably be the case in the future. I noticed this problem because Loyalty Islands does not have an inter-wiki link to the French Wikipedia article, which I thought very strange considering it's a French possession; after finding the French article and trying to add the link on Wikidata, I found this article instead, which already had the inter-wiki link. I investigated the articles' histories and found that Loyalty Islands Province was, before 2015, a redirect to Loyalty Islands. In this edit from 2015, editor @Scanlan undid the redirect, and copied much of the content of this article from the other article (without attribution). The French Wikipedia uses a single article, fr:Province des îles Loyauté, and rightly so given the amount of content on the subject. There is no need on English Wikipedia for these two articles which are essentially the same content under two different titles, and if one day there is truly enough content for a separate natural geography article, then it could be recreated as such. Until then, I suggest we merge Loyalty Islands into Loyalty Islands Province, and add the natural geography content to a ==Geography==
section of the article. This action will also restore the proper attributions for the content copied in 2015, as is required under Wikipedia licensing terms. — Define Real (talk) 23:38, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
- Support this looks very noncontroversial. Just do it. Legacypac (talk) 08:59, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
External link added
[edit]While performing the merge, I added a link to French Wikipedia in the body of the article for the existing red link to Pres. Richard Kaloï as I have never done an inter-wiki link and can't quite get the notation correct. I'd appreciate it if anyone could fix it. Regards, GenQuest "Talk to Me" 19:09, 30 March 2019 (UTC)
Map issue
[edit]The map at the top of the article is captioned "Location of Loyalty Islands Province in New Caledonia" - however, the map shows all of New Caledonia, and doesn't specify which area is the "Loyalty Islands". The areas appear to be numbered, so can someone who knows which island is which please add the pertinent number to that sentence? .e.g "Location of Loyalty Islands Province in New Caledonia [24]". 1.157.95.133 (talk) 06:55, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
