Two monks called Liyan

[edit]

There were two monks in the eighth century who were sometimes called Lìyán 利言 but who were mainly known by other names:

(1) Zhēnyuè 真月 "true bright/moon" *Satyacandra? (fl. 8th C) A native of the country of Qūzhī 屈支 (MC: kʰwɨt-tśi̯ə) "Kucha", personal name Bù Nàxiàn 布那羨, (Bù 布 is a non-Han name). (See: T 2157 55.878b10-879a11)

(2) Yuánzhào 圓照 "complete illumination" (fl. 8th C), personal name Zhāng 張 (given name unknown). From Lántián 藍田 in Jīngzhào 京兆 (in the vicinity of Chang'an). (See: T 2061, 50:804b17 ff).
