Mediterranean, Black and Baltic ports and harbours should be included
[edit]Indeed, those seas are part of the Atlantic Ocean. Apcbg (talk) 05:47, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Merge tags
[edit]I notice the list pages for ports on the North Sea and in the Baltic have been tagged for merge to here. There's no explanation for these, so I can see very little reason not to delete them out of hand, but for the record, I would oppose these mergers.
It is entirely debatable whether the North Sea or the Baltic are an integral part of the Atlantic, rather than distinct and independent subsections of it; we have separate articles on those bodies (as we do for the English Channel, or the Mediterranean, the ports of which are not included in this proposal). Nor is there any reason given why these ports are less distinct than say, the ports of Argentina, Cabo Verde, England and Wales, Ireland, Mexico, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, or the United States, all of which have their own list pages.
There is no overlap of scope and little duplication of content so far, nor, if each article had a clear statement of its parameters, does there need to be. Also, the Baltic page states there are 200 ports and harbours around that sea; if that scale of inclusion is used for every nook and cranny of the Atlantic the page would rapidly reach the stage when it'd have to be split (if it hasn't already).
It would make more sense to limit additions to the Atlantic page to ports that handle trans-Atlantic trade, and leave fishing ports, ferry terminals, naval bases, safe havens, open roadsteads and shingle beaches that might otherwise qualify for inclusion on such a list to the relevant sub-set page. Scope?
[edit]What exactly is the purpose and scope of this page? At present it seems to be a jumble of links, in no particular order, to cities which have an Atlantic coastline, and which may or may not have a port. If it is on ports and harbours, it'd make more sense to link to an article on such a port (viz), or to the port section of the city page (viz). If it is to be a single table, it'd make sense to be in alphabetical order, rather than the current mix of alphabetical by country/continent. otherwise a division into sections by area (North Atlantic, South Atlantic, etc) or by continent, would be useful. And why a table? We already have articles listing ports by country, and the body of water can be sectioned; it'd be more useful to know what kind of port (oil terminal, container port) or what kind of harbor (coastal/river, tidal dock, deep-water, off-shore terminal) if it is to be more than a simple list. - Agreed. This list as-is serves no purpose. It should either be broken up to regions. (I.e. Northern North America, Caribbean / Central America, Europe / mediterraneanian, Africa, South America) or else by country. But having a list with Western Asia mixed with South America is still kinda weird. CaribDigita (talk) 03:16, 10 March 2022 (UTC)
- Agree. And maybe do list of the biggest ports and add that directly to the Atlantic Ocean article? Adam.kgrv (talk) 11:41, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

Port? or City?
[edit]In the list I see cities instead of ports... Why? What for? Is this am mistake? How? --Markus (talk) 12:27, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
TVV?
[edit]This item appears in the list but its link points to something unrelated. I have no idea what TVV is supposed to be. Remove? Smratguy (talk) 18:38, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
Mariupol
[edit]Maybe we should add Ukraine/Russia next to Sevastopol port (and others in Crimea/Azov sea)? Adam.kgrv (talk) 11:38, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
