Request for Comment
[edit]A page similar to this one. List of people from San Francisco, is currently under review as an article for deletion, for reasons which would apply to this article as well. I am conducting an RfC on the talk page of the above-mentioned list to determine whether the concensus agrees on keeping such lists or not. Any and all comments are more than welcome. - It seems like this decision shouldn't be made on a city-by-city basis. No matter what the city, the issue of whether to keep the list as a "category" or a list. To tell the truth, I don't understand the distinction. Famous people who have lived in a city are part of that city's heritage, and such a list should definitely be easily accessed from a city's page. It would be great to annotate the list with some information about the person's ties to the city (whether merely born there, or lived there their entire lives, etc.). As I noted on the Berkeley page, people seemed to have included every famous person who has set foot in the city. It makes more sense to include an annotation about their ties to the city, because they may not be obvious, rather than a brief bio, which is readily available by clicking on the link to their entry. - I agree wholeheartedly. I myself have not yet begun to work on this particular page, and have only recently begun work to upgrade any of these lists at all. However, I intend, ultimately, to make this list resemble the List of people from Boston which has already been begun by me. It should be noted that even that list, however, is still in the early stages. In some of the areas with smaller populations, the "famous residents" section is being added to the page of the county or the city itself. However, I am going through an entire book (as well as, eventually, the subsequent volumes in the series) and including all the individuals who have separate entries in those books on the lists in which they belong. - It looks like they decided not to delete the SF page. I guess we can consider this page safe too. I'll try to add annotations to improve it. Lagringa 05:45, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
Work to be Done
[edit]Here are a couple directions I'd like to see this page move in:
- Include claim to fame, like in List of people from Boston
- Sync up with Category:People_from_Oakland,_California
Let this serve as a reference for things I'd like to work on when I have more time. Please feel free to go ahead and make any of these changes yourself. --Andy M. 06:50, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Burials
[edit]Some of the names here are connected by reliable source only to their being buried in oakland. I dont think that counts as being "from" oakland.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 17:11, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
- Some of those may have lived in Oakland, and some may not have. I agree the latter group should be removed. Binksternet (talk) 17:13, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

Sonny Barger founded the Oakland chapter of the Hells Angels, but not the whole club.
[edit]The San Bernardino chapter predates Oakland's by about nine years, and they are still active.
Also: while he has been a convicted criminal and a leader of the MC, he's also an author. Would it be better to list him under the Authors category? Pithecanthropus4152 (talk) 01:51, 11 January 2023 (UTC)
