Cleanup and standardization

[edit]

This article is a bit of a train wreck at the moment, due to its unclear purpose. It is more than a list of Korean comics licensed in English, as it contains titles like Blade of the Phantom Master. As a list of English licenses, it fails. As a list of all Korean comics ever, it does and will forever fail. /The latter purpose can be better addressed using lists of titles handled by individual publishers and magazines, I think. I propose this list be for Korean comic titles officially licensed in English. That makes it both useful and encyclopedic. The official English language title will be used, which should match the name of an existing or future article. Revision of this list is a good time to see if alternative title redirects are in place.

The creator names also need to be revised, as few are listed in accordance with Wikipedia's Korean naming conventions. They are to be Lastname First-name, and I can't think of any Korean comic artists that are famous enough to qualify for an exception to this. English-language comic publishers are inconsistent, even for a single author, with regard to name order, hyphens, and capitalization, but are quite consistent with name spelling. Thus I propose names be spelled as they are in English publications, and structured per WP:NC-KO. Revised Romanization, which is not fully applied to names, can be listed after the hangul in parentheses to substitute for what would be handled by Template:Infobox Korean name (which we don't use). If individual names are confusing, let's talk about it! :)

Please comment, question, throw rotten fruit as long as it's not too smelly. Then let's figure out how to whip this list into shape! :) --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 18:44, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You may be interested in having a look at the animanga project's solution to this problem: List of licensed manga in English (although personally, I hate the name). —Dinoguy1000 18:59, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Great example! That list has been an influence -- well organized, clear purpose. We'll have to decide whether authors should be retained or not. There's pros and cons either way. --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 22:38, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with using only licensed manhwa. The ones on the list would be the ones that really need articles because people can actually find them in book stores and there will be more reception. Authors names don't necessarily have to be kept because they can be easily accessed in the article. However a series without an article will be left standing by itself; though that creates a need to make a page for it. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 14:19, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, if we don't need authors, then we don't need Korean names, either, like in the manga list. (Those will be on the to-do list, since both are vital to creating an article). My reasoning was since most of the list will be redlinks, both are needed to help readers know what series is being talked about. "Rainbow" just doesn't mean muchm BUT I wholeheartedly agree with not unduly repeating info in multiple locations, though!! In theory, even for series with no articles, author and Korean name will be in the publisher/magazine articles (see List of series run in Comic Champ as an example). If we omit everything but the title, then how to format so it doesn't look even worse than now? Maybe, name of American licensor and date (year?) of licensing should be there? Those would be directly relevant to the article? Funny how making a list is actually complicated! :) --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 17:16, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non-licensed titles

[edit]

The following were removed when the article was defined to focus on just titles licensed in English. I couldn't find licensing info for these, but I certainly could have missed it, so if you have the licensor's name, feel free to add a title back in.

Question: Where should be the right place for the entries since they are removed from this article? --Caspian blue (talk) 12:59, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I actually don't know. It's just not possible to have a "list of all manhwa in the world".  :) I'm working on articles for publishers and magazines, and am including relevant titles, but it's going slowly. Titles can also be included on authors' articles (of which there are few). I'm kind of the only one actually doing this, so everything just happens really, really slowly. Do you have ideas? --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 13:08, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm so sorry that I've deferred all manhwa related tasks to your shoulder. This is actually a big project. According to several Japanese people's allegation, I love Korea so much, so I've been busy dealing with them. :) I think this article only holding translated works into English is renamed as the aforementioned one, List of licensed manhwa in English or something. All works with licensed on non-licensed works are listed on just "list of manhwa. How do you think? --Caspian blue (talk) 13:27, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh don't apologize! I know you work hard on a lot of Korea-related articles. :) This article does need to be renamed, yeah. As for having a list of manhwa, with no restrictions, I don't really think it's possible. There's just too many. We have a list of manhwa licensed in English, lists of manhwa serialized in various magazines, etc. A list has to have a greater focus than just "list of manhwa". Eventually, all of the titles above will probably wind up on some publisher's list of titles, it just takes a long time. I've been on Daiwon's site, trying to write articles about their magazines with a full list of titles from each. Given that I don't read Korean, this takes a really long time, LOL! If you are familiar with any of the above titles, you can add notes as to their original Korean title in hangul, what magazine they were in, stuff like that. That helps get them sorted out for the future.  :) --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 19:07, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would implement such info as possible as I can. --Caspian blue (talk) 11:43, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
