Bit of a mess

[edit]

This article is not at all easy to navigate, as it is all in one section. Furthermore, the vast majority of these festivals are non-notable red links. I suggest we cut out all the irrelevant festivals and perhaps organise them by region. NyanThousand, you started trying to do this by splitting up the article in lots of smaller ones, but I do not think this is wise because we will be left with many articles detailing few or no relevant/notable festivals. I'm going to nominate these smaller articles for deletion, and bring more editors in on this so we can get their opinions. Quasar G t - c 11:55, 14 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that's totally fair. My bad for doing something so major without consensus, I guess. My thinking is that we can take a few cues from say, List of festivals in the United States and split it up by region. If a certain province has enough fiestas then it can have its own article. The thing about relevant/notable festivals bears noting though. If we're being thorough and include all fiestas, then a single province (or even city) would have enough fiestas for its own list article; as we know, each baranggay has its own patron saint and its own fiesta. Then there's things like cityhood fiestas, harvest festivals, special Holy Week and Christmas-time celebrations that vary per province, commemorations of battles and historical events, and fiestas about just about anything with no overt religious significance. But then we'd be running into the question of what is notable, because almost all of these fiestas aren't really that notable outside their home province (or even baranggay in the case of feast days).
I'd still push for a separate article per region, honestly. We can classify fiestas depending on their type within. The main article can have fiestas that are common enough around the country (San Isidro Labrador, San Juan Bautista, Holy Week, Chinese New Year, etc.) and "corporate-sponsored" festivals that don't really fit into what a "fiesta" is (e.g. MMFF, Cinemalaya, Wanderland, Vios Cup, etc.). What does everybody else think though? NyanThousand (talk) 12:53, 14 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@NyanThousand: I'm going to start work on this article now, in my sandbox. Basically, I will remove any entries not supported by a reliable source (calendars of events don't count), and then group them by date. I expect it to take at least a week. Quasar G t - c 09:16, 30 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
