Canadian Future Party

The colour's done; turns out the party's colour and template name is Future, which I didn't know until today. All the party websites are at their own wiki articles and in the Elections Canada external link. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 14:05, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

Confusing Columns

While it is reasonable to have different column headers for parties with and without seats, where the column titles align, they should be presented in the same order. Since all column headers are effectively the same, with the exception of "Most Ridings Contested" and MPs, column headers ought to be presented in the same order, with those two columns appearing in the 7th position.

There is also a potential problem with the "MPs" heading. Since it doesn't limit it to sitting MPs, it would be reasonable to bump Maxime Bernier's People's Party into the upper list.

It occurs to me that since not all parties in the upper list contest all federal ridings, perhaps there really ought to be 8 uniform columns? Laurel L. Russwurm (talk) 18:22, 5 September 2024 (UTC)

I do not think there is any ambiguity to the "MPs" column, because the table is prefaced by These parties have seats in the House of Commons … Members were elected in the 2021 Canadian federal election. It can be inferred that those are sitting MPs. — Kawnhr (talk) 17:26, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

So in other words, the meaning of "MPs" used in the heading for the column depends on a definition above the list that will necessarily be changed after every election.

A Member of Parliament is an MP. This may refer to a sitting MP or a former MP, but either way, once elected they will always be able to list "MP" on their CV.

Its fine to limit the first part of the list to sitting MPs. What I object to is that there is no reason the second part of the list should not also have an MPs column to indicate former MPs.

There is no reason for both sections of the parties List not to have the same columns listed in the same order: Name | Founded | Leader | Ideology | Political Position |Largest MP Caucus | Most Ridings Contested | MPs

Small parties already face more than enough discriminatory barriers in our political system, and as a neutral encyclopedia, Wikipedia should not be adding more. Laurel L. Russwurm (talk) 10:57, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
