Formation dates for List of counties in Texas

[edit]

The Created dates listed for the counties appear to be inconsistent with the referenced source in Find a County. For each county, the correct date may be the one on the row above. Anderson County was created in 1846, Andrews in 1876, Angelina in 1846, Aransas in 1871, etc. Hugh16 (talk) 23:21, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It got seriously messed with awhile back, I'll fix it up. Thanks. Joe I 06:19, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Map showing all counties needed

[edit]

Can we get a map showing all the counties of Texas, similar to this one for Ohio? Badagnani (talk) 21:20, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Great Page

[edit]

What a great, informative page. Thank you guys! -LlywelynII (talk) 16:37, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Small problem

[edit]

At least some of the page is wrong. E.g., Polk County is given as "One of the original 23 counties" established in "1836," which hardly makes any sense given that Polk is named in honor of the guy presiding over the 1848 Mexican-American War, wasn't even in office until 1845, and was the dark horse candidate to boot. Polk and Tyler Cos. came from Liberty Co. in 1846. I'll fix those two. For others, see here. The maps would make a nice addition to various history of Texas pages as well, I think. -LlywelynII (talk) 17:43, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Santa Fe County

[edit]

Must we have the link to [Santa Fe County] redirect back to this page? I think a red link would be best here. MistaPotta (talk) 03:50, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Medina County

[edit]

The etymology mentions the county was named after a Spanish engineer named Pedro Medina. The link, however, is to a modern Pedro Medina who has nothing to do with the county. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.64.160.222 (talk) 14:26, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

2010 Census

[edit]

The Texas results are available for the 2010 census and it'd be pretty good if this list could be amended to feature that data. I'm not a particularly experienced editor which is why I'd rather let someone else do it. This is the first site I came to which had the data, I don't know if it's ok for a reference. http://txsdc.utsa.edu/. VanillaBear23 (talk) 13:34, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What year are the population figures from currently? This date should be added regardless. Mattximus (talk) 15:27, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Original Counties

[edit]

How many original counties (municipalities) were there really? The page says that there were 23 original counties at the time that Texas became a state. "One of the original 23 counties" is mentioned for only 22 counties in the list. I checked for another original county in the list and could not find one. NewYorkeruser (talk) 23:09, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Since I can't find the link to post this information, I hope it's okay to add it as an EDIT: Yes, there were 23 Original Counties of the Republic of Texas, that became the State of Texas... The 23rd (missing one) is SAN PATRICIO County, Seat of: Sinton, (see: http://www.bing.com/search?q=san%20patricio%20county%20texas&PQ=San%20Patricio%20county%2C%20teXAS&SP=1&QS=AS&SK=&sc=8-25&form=BSRTSS&pc=BBSR)... Not sure why it is listed as founded in 1846, and split from Refugio County... And yes, as another person commented, for some reason, Polk County (including a trivia website) is listed as being founded as one of the "original" counties, but it wasn't founded until 1846... (see: http://www.bing.com/search?q=polk%20county%20texas&PQ=polk%20county%20texas&SP=1&QS=HS&SK=&sc=8-17&form=BSRTSH&pc=BBSR) I'm not even an "original" Texan, but know this much... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.196.4.211 (talk) 17:46, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ambulance service

[edit]

The statement that counties are not responsible for providing ambulance service is misleading. Many rural counties do run their own taxpayer supported EMS that is governed by the Commissioners Court and not by a separate elected board, and are paid and not volunteer. Counties absolutely have statutory authority to run their own ambulance service without creating a separate emergency service district, and many rural counties, including Colorado County, do so. For example, out of a roughly $13 million annual budget, Colorado County spends approximately $1.5 million - $1.8 million per year on maintaining six or seven ambulances, and 20+ full time paramedics and EMTs, all of whom are county employees on the Texas County and District Retirement System.

MAP of counties problem

[edit]

I can't find out how to distinguish the characters layered atop the county-squares map. They are all mashed together in heaps.
Setting my font-size down to 14 doesn't seem to help.
So this is at least an accessability fail... and worthless as is.
I get that it's tough ... searching for county maps online, I see that distinguishing 254 counties isn't easy for mappers. It might help to break the state map up into 4 regions distinguished by major cities ... no other ideas.

Complaint of Unreadability and Unusability

[edit]

This list is a useless, unsorted mass of various counties, without any aid or context. Most offices cannot make use of this list due to lack of any geographic relation. The alphabetized names are useless as an index.

Most users of this list have to waste a lot of time to figure out where any county is. This list has been a historical source of great frustration, due to less useful information having priority over locales that need to be found by most of the population.

Previous users made this list readable and useful, but that has been undone by an advocate of the lesser populated counties, taht are not as notable information. --96.8.132.38 (talk) 17:34, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

http://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=List_of_counties_in_Texas&oldid=1027901451

This revision has specifically made this list a complete waste of time to use. 96.8.132.38 (talk) 17:38, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is a list of all counties in Texas. Splitting counties off by population, let alone an arbitrary mark, is nonsensical. If you want to sort by population, you can do that in the existing table. If you have a problem with the number of counties in Texas, take it up with Texas. Toa Nidhiki05 18:00, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
