Contested deletion

[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... early colonial history is very important and alcohol/breweries played a huge role in early economics in Canada, but if early colonial history about alcohol is not considered important to our history then please delete the page.

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... also the 'former brewery house' is quite possibly the oldest (or one of the oldest) breweries in colonial North America which deserves recognition in the history books. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nick21mo (talkcontribs) 16:20, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Oldest" breweries?

[edit]

Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate list of information.

When breweries that started in the 1990s are listed, the article no longer qualifies as a list of "oldest" breweries.

Lists must have inclusion criteria. What are the criteria here? Just being a brewery? Being a notable brewery? Being a brewery established at least a century ago?

Either tighten up the inclusion criteria or rename the article. ~Amatulić (talk) 18:28, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

very true, no more 21st/20th century breweries. pre-20th century Canadian breweries should be a good criteria for being deemed old? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nick21mo (talkcontribs) 18:34, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Your most recent change is fine.
There's nothing really wrong with a comprehensive list of breweries in Candada (regardless of age), as long as we don't include external links to their web sites. See List of breweries in New Jersey for example. Nearly all of those listed have no articles on them; they just redirect to beer in New Jersey. ~Amatulić (talk) 21:16, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

ok perfect, thank you! I'm new so I'm just learning but I appreciate the help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nick21mo (talkcontribs) 22:23, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

So, do you want to expand the list to include all breweries in Canada? If so, it's no problem to re-name the article. ~Amatulić (talk) 23:55, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

ya maybe an expansion would be good, I like the new jersey list so maybe title it "List of Canadian Breweries and Wineries" and i could still keep it a chronological list with divisions by province.Nick21mo (talk) 11:01, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You might also want to look at the top of that New Jersey article, which goes into a bit of history. And the lead paragraph clearly defines the criteria for inclusion in the list. Modeling this article after that one would be a good idea, I think. You don't necessarily need a section about history (although it would be nice to have) but an introductory paragraph is a necessity for most good lists on Wikipedia. ~Amatulić (talk) 14:15, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

that sounds good, I'll continue modelling this page after the new jersey one and work on an intro paragraph as well in the following days, thanks! Nick21mo (talk) 20:32, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have renamed the page to List of breweries in Canada. ~Amatulić (talk) 22:41, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
