Removal of non notable awards.

[edit]

As Antinoos69 has undone my edit and asked for discussion on the talkpage. I'll explain the edit further. On Wikipedia lists of accolades we only list awards are notable i.e. meet WP:GNG sufficient that they have or could have their own article to avoid lists being an indiscriminate list of every award that a film has received. There have been multiple discussions on this topic. Therefore Central Ohio, Golden Schmoes, Online Whale Awards, Georgia Film are not counted. I'm afraid a random YouTube channel's awards don't count (Online Whale Awards), also not internet polls such as (Golden Schmoes). Let me know if you need further clarification. Tenebrae was the user who initiated many of these discussions relating to indiscriminate lists of awards, so should also be able to help clarify this. Cowlibob (talk) 23:14, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cowlibob is absolutely correct. WP:FILM articles do not list non-notable awards, defined as those without a Wikipedia article. I would ask Antinoos69 not to continue to edit-war but to discuss the issue on this talk page. --Tenebrae (talk) 23:18, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You are misconstruing policy. WP:NNC explicitly states that WP:GNG criteria do not apply to items in a list nor to article content. And I see nothing in WP:FILM providing guidance here. So, unless actually on-point policy can be provided, I will soon be restoring the improperly removed material.

That meaningless technospeak aside, let's address actually meaningful points for a second or two, if that isn't considered offensive on here. The whole point of this spinoff article is to provide awards that the film has won without overburdening the original film article. In other words, the whole point here is to go into detail one wouldn't in the film article. Presumably, that detail would include awards one might not include in the film article. As the improperly removed awards are of some curiosity and interest (certainly to me, for example), and as the list in its original form was hardly unwieldy compared to its present state, there is simply no rational reason to remove material that is of demonstrated interest to readers (i.e., to myself, for one). Again, in the absence of rational justification, I will soon restore the material.

It is a source of constant amazement to me that editors, in the name of some supposed legalism and bureaucracy, would undermine the entire purpose of Wikipedia, to provide reliable information of interest to actual readers. Antinoos69 (talk) 23:52, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WP:FILM editors reached consensus on this more than a year-and-a-half ago at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Film/Archive 11#Awards organizations' notability and have been operating under this consensus ever since. I would also point out that you cannot unilaterally decide that you "will soon restore the material" against both that consensus and the consensus of editors on this page. That constitutes edit-warring, and it also goes against the principle that no one unilaterally owns an article and that we edit by consensus. There is no consensus for your proposed edit.
You're free to discuss, call an WP:RfC or take other avenues Wikipedia makes available for achieving consensus. But do do edit-war and do not threaten to make unilateral non-consensus edits. --Tenebrae (talk) 00:11, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You apparently missed my “unless actually on-point policy can be provided.” You could have spared us considerable verbiage. Antinoos69 (talk) 17:33, 25 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
RE "It is a source of constant amazement to me that editors, in the name of some supposed legalism and bureaucracy, would undermine the entire purpose of Wikipedia, to provide reliable information of interest to actual readers." What's interesting to you is not necessarily interesting "to actual readers". Wikipedia was never supposed to be a repository of indiscriminate information. --Tenebrae (talk) 00:14, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Btw, your argument is absurd. As I am an “actual reader,” the fact that I find something interesting does by logical necessity mean that it is of interest to “actual readers.” Antinoos69 (talk) 17:33, 25 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Support: there is no need to add non-notable awards. Nauriya (Rendezvous) 18:52, 8 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
