This article is horribly written... can someone please help?? Wellthatsjustwrong (talk) 20:40, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you think it's horribly written, re-write it. Jayy008 (talk) 21:11, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Some style cleanup

[edit]

I'm not intimately familiar with the show's first season (yet) but I am going to attempt to clean up the writing, style, etc. I'm making an effort not to change the informative content of anything but it'd be nice if someone can double-check my edits to make sure. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kutulu (talkcontribs) 01:26, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

I don't dislike the images that were recently added but I thought I remembered that for "list of" articles, one cast image (instead of individual actor images) was generally preferred due to potential problems with non-free images. I wanted to ask about this before the editor putting in all of the work got too far along. I can't seem to find where I read this so I'm assuming it was a conversation on a talk page somewhere and not something flat out specified in the TV MOS (or I'm suffering from reading failure at the moment). Anyone? Millahnna (talk) 16:57, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If there free and released by the owner to Commons or Flickr, they can be used anywhere I do believe. Jayy008 (talk) 18:05, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have added a different picture of Ian Somerhalder to the page. I think a picture of him at a panel for the show is better than a modelling picture of him. Also, I removed the Matt Davis picture as I don't think a picture of him smoking is appropriate. Please discuss if you think otherwise. Jayy008 (talk) 19:35, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Completely agree on the Somerhalder picture. Am ambivalent on the Davis picture - I couldn't care less about an image showing an actor smoking but I can see how it might bother someone down the line so that was probably a good call. As an aside, if anyone reading this happens to have an idea of what I was thinking of above (where I might have read that conversation) let me know. At this point it's just bugging me I can't remember the specifics of whatever situation that was. Millahnna (talk) 01:11, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Have you tried asking anybody at WikiprojectTV? They're really nice over there and very helpful. Jayy008 (talk) 15:52, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question about Werewolves in TVD

[edit]

Do werewolves in TVD age like humans or are they frozen in time like vampires ? 161.24.19.112 (talk) 14:12, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It hasn't been addressed directly on the show but the implication has been that they age (Tyler's dad). I don't know if it's been covered in any sources that would warrant inclusion in the article. Millahnna (talk) 14:18, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe they only stop aging after they trigger the curse or, equivalently, after they start phasing. As far as I understand, Tyler's dad never actually turned into a wolf. 161.24.19.112 (talk) 17:42, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Recurring/guest stars

[edit]

I recently removed "Andie Star" and "Jonas Martin" as they are guest stars. But it's been challenged, so I'm bringing it here to see people's thoughts as to if they should be included in "recurring characters"? Jayy008 (talk) 19:11, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure about the relevance of Jonas, but Andie played at least that much role [specially with lead character (Damon)] that we can retain a section for her in guest stars' list. We've a great example here, I think we can do something like this. — Bill william comptonTalk 18:32, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yep! I agree, I think a guest stars section would be good as I'm sure a show like this would have many. I just needed clarification that they aren't recurring. Jayy008 (talk) 20:25, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So, why don't we just wait for a month or two, because I don't think they have officially released the cast members' list for upcoming season. — Bill william comptonTalk 20:58, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, one character is deceased, so as it stands, there's no reason for him to be back. Jayy008 (talk) 15:21, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We can assume. — Bill william comptonTalk 15:53, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Guest Stars

[edit]

Obviously we can't list every single person who guest stars on the show. They have to have notability. A user keeps adding every person they see fit, notable or not. I'm bringing it here to avoid constant edit-warring and to get clarification on the characters that keep being added. Jayy008 (talk) 14:43, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think we should move Pearl, Mason Lockwood and Luka Martin to guest stars. What do you think? --JWHolland (talk) 11:49, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The reliable source says Mason Lockwood is recurring. Pearl cropped up a lot in season 1 and was a big part of the main storylines which have continued through season 2. Jayy008 (talk) 15:26, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Amount of information on characters

[edit]

The information for each character on this page is extremely detailed. I think that we should consider splitting the article into separate pages for all the main characters so that their storylines can be explored in depth without clogging up the page. Currently each character bio ranges from 300 - 800 words, with a lot of the information being plot details. I think it would be in the articles best interest to revamp the page so that each character only has a short (>200 words) summary of the role they play in the show, along with their own separate page. Ryvenn (talk) 00:02, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You're correct, they are too long and can be shortened. However, they can't have their own pages unless they have notability. A good example of what a page needs to look like to be allowed is: Naomi Clark, unless a character page is around that level, it will be deleted. Jayy008 (talk) 13:48, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, the regular characters are perfect in length. It's some of the recurring stars that have undue weight to them. I've made some changes, but it's a lot of work, I guess I'll get to it eventually. Jayy008 (talk) 15:28, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Elijah and Anna need major shortening, while Carol, Isobel and John need minor shortening. Jayy008 (talk) 15:45, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for weighing in on this! I'll start working on some of those characters you mentioned. Do you have an idea of a word count we should be aiming for? Ryvenn (talk) 21:49, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not really. I will be able to get you the information shortly, but in the meantime, try and aim for how the regulars look. Jayy008 (talk) 20:25, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Andie Star

[edit]

Even, though, a recurring character isn't based on episode count alone here is the source to say Dawn Olivieri was in five episodes. That's a guest arc, she was a minor character, with a very minor story. Jayy008 (talk) 13:56, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Trevino image

[edit]

There's another image of "Michael Trevino" at Comic Con. Could this one be used instead? He's facing downwards, but I personally prefer it. Jayy008 (talk) 14:05, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting

[edit]

What about creating separate pages about the main characters? Like what happened with Damon. --Chiya92 09:09, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Many users tried to do it, but at last the pages removed by other users. Keivan.fTalk 15:12, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Character Birth dates

[edit]

In the description of the character, it reads Vicki Donovan is Matt Donovan's older sister while the birth date given for Vicki is 1993 and for Matt is 1992. I have not read the book so can someone change the birth date as it is misleading.Kavinayan (talk) 14:07, 18 December 2012 (UTC)KaviNayan[reply]

Separate pages for Caroline and Bonnie

[edit]

Why are there not separate pages for the characters Caroline and Bonnie, considering they are main characters. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SNTMcentral (talkcontribs) 17:25, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Still think that Caroline should have her own page as the information about her on this page is becoming excessive --SNTMcentral (talk) 02:52, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The solution in this case is not to split, but rather to trim. It is becoming overly detailed. Nymf (talk) 14:23, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Separating the pages

[edit]

Over the course of what's left of 2013, seeing as I founded Wikipedia:WikiProject The Vampire Diaries, I will begin to create pages for these characters individually. Original Authority (talk) 22:14, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Silas not a vampire

[edit]

I see that most of this comments are very old so I don't know if someone is gonna read this but if so, please replay. So, in 5x01 of TVD, Silas had a little "chat" with Sheriff Forbes and somewhere in that conversation Silas said "I came firs, vampires are nothing more than disgusting per-version of me, I'm unkillable, I'm immortal and I'm psychic and to function I need human blood, but don't ever call me a vampire!", so he's actually right, I mean, the spell Esther used to transforme her family into vampires is like a 1000 years after the one Qetsiyah did, plus Silas is immortal (in the real meaning of the word), originals still had the white oak that was lethal to them, plus vampires had strength, speed and compulsion, Silas only had the psychic ability, the only similar things is the need for the human blood, in the end, Silas was the first immortal creature, but the Mikaelsons were the firs vampires. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DCF94 (talkcontribs) 01:22, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Colour on the character appearance tables

[edit]

black is hard to see on the blue (Recurring) and the references are hard to see on the teal (Main). The only bit that works is the black on yellow (guest).

Can we have a discussion on what to change them to?--Ditto51 (My Talk Page) 16:24, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New Draft of this page

[edit]

Hello everyone, I am currently working on a new draft of this page here to try and address some of the issues brought up by the users who put up the template on the top of the page.

I would like some help if any is available, whether it be a source, an image or the addition of more (Sourced) information. The only thing that has to be done is trying to keep the character bios down, particularly for those with their own pages, as they will otherwise include too much in-universe terminology and phrases.--Ditto51 (My Talk Page) 18:53, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Too much of this page is ridiculously poorly written. Someone with a deep, deep love of this series and its characters, and an adequate grasp of English grammar, has a lot of work to do! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.34.132.214 (talk) 18:46, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Images - character vs actor

[edit]

All the images on this page are of the actors. None of them are in-character. Should they not all be replaced with photos of them of their characters, as on other character articles? Please discuss. --Ebyabe talk - Repel All Boarders18:27, 17 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Resolved @Ebyabe: I have removed all of the actor images from the article. As you say, the images should be of the characters, not of the actors who portray them. --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:33, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Episode counts deprecated

[edit]

Based on this discussion at WT:MOSTV, "episode counts" in television cast lists have been deprecated, and should be removed. (See also: WP:TVCAST"The cast listing should not contain an episode count, e.g. (# episodes), to indicate the number of episodes in which the actor/character appeared. If an actor misses an episode due to a real world occurrence, such as an injury that prevents them from appearing, this info can be noted in the character's description or "Production" section with a reliable source.")

As such, I'm just placing this here as a notice that I intend to remove the episode counts from both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals cast tables at this article soon. --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:12, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Article split suggested

[edit]

At almost 200kB, this article should almost certainly be split under WP:SIZESPLIT. While there is overlap between the two shows, The Originals is well-developed enough now to merit its own article. Thus, I suggest the list of The Originals characters be spun off into a separate List of The Originals characters. --IJBall (contribstalk) 02:07, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, it should be split. It shouldn't even have been here to begin with, anyway. While you're at it, it could probably be trimmed to half the article size by removing WP:INUNIVERSE/WP:FANCRUFT violations as well. Nymf (talk) 06:42, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Heh – That would be a big project that would probably be above my pay grade! --IJBall (contribstalk) 06:55, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I agree we should split it up. only a few of the Originals need to be mentioned on the TVD characters page, and it can refer back and forth. —DLManiac (talk) 07:24, 19 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I will probably get to an article split early next week... --IJBall (contribstalk) 14:28, 19 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Katherine Recurring?

[edit]

How is Katherine recurring for certain seasons? A character can appear just once but from my understanding as long as they are credited as "Starring" they are main regardless. :/ Scream4man (talk) 22:31, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Whose Jessica

[edit]

Whose the Young girl locked in a painting that saved me Sir Frances drake of England + The holy codex and corpius crisius (talk) 10:00, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Katherine

[edit]

So Katherine is currently listed as recurring. However, that isn't right because Nina Dobrev is credited under "Starring" and she plays the role of Katherine. Therefore, Katherine is a main for those specific seasons. A main character is not determined by their episode count, but rather their crediting status. Anyone credited under "Starring" is main for that season, regardless of their episodes. Scream4man (talk) 20:54, 23 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well really Katherine shouldn't be listed there as she isn't a "main" character (she just happens to be played, occasionally, by a main cast actor) but, as I said before, this is a character list, not a cast list. If it were a cast list, then yes, Nina Dobrev's entry would be "main" for seasons 1 through 6. But since it's character-based, that's not the case for Katherine the character. But anyway, I would fully support taking Katherine out of this table and putting her in the Recurring section. To me it would be a lot less confusing that way. It's not like Stefan's multiple roles are listed in "Main characters"... I think it's just fan-love for that particular character that has her in this table. Joeyconnick (talk) 01:12, 24 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
My point is though, it is completely incorrect to list her as Recurring. A main character is not determined by their importance or episode count, only recurring and guest stars are. A main character is determined by whether their actor is credited as "starring" or not. For example, if a character had an appearance in every single episode of the season, but was still credited under "Guest Starring" would we consider them recurring or main? Get what I'm saying? Scream4man (talk) 22:48, 9 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Catherine is a recurring character in those seasons. The table makes it clear that Nina Dobrev is still main cast, so all the table does is really make it more informative than the alternative option of listing Nina as playing Elena/Katherine together. The way it is really gives the most information in my opinion. DLManiac (talk) 22:57, 9 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Amara and Tatia?

[edit]

Why haven't Amara and Tatia (Katherine's doppelgangers) been added? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 7e2 (talkcontribs) 16:06, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, Katherine is a doppelgänger of Tatia, who instead is a doppelgänger of Amara. Honestly, I have no idea why they haven't been added. Shouldn't they be added, Neo the Twin? -KingKlaus07 (talk) 05:39, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
KingKlaus07, do add them under minor characters or recurring characters, but I personally think minor would be more adequate. Neo the Twin (talk) 05:46, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Neo the Twin, what about Silas? -KingKlaus07 (talk) 05:58, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
KingKlaus07, my opinion is in the header below. Neo the Twin (talk) 06:13, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, cool. Could you add Amara and Tatia's names in the recurring characters table? Amara is, I think, a recurring character in season 5 only. Tatia is in the Originals. -KingKlaus07 (talk) 06:20, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
KingKlaus07, that will be done. Neo the Twin (talk) 06:23, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Stefan Salvatore and Silas

[edit]

Stefan Salvatore and Silas are two completely different characters. They shouldn't be kept in the same list as a main character. Silas was an immortal; Stefan was a cured vampire/human doppelgänger. I honestly believe this needs to be sorted out. And Stefan's summary should describe him, not give his backstory. It should be like Damon's summary. Hence, it should be changed. Requesting all administrators and Wikipedians to give this a thought. Thank you. -KingKlaus07 (talk) 05:37, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Neo the Twin, your thoughts, please? -KingKlaus07 (talk) 05:59, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
KingKlaus07, it would appropriate to be placed under main characters since he was one in season 4 and 5, just like Katherine, please try to separate Stefan from Silas as they are not the same person (although portrayed by one). Neo the Twin (talk) 06:12, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
 Done. -KingKlaus07 (talk) 06:18, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Neo the Twin, why did you revert my edit? -KingKlaus07 (talk) 06:51, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
KingKlaus07, read the edit summary. Neo the Twin (talk) 11:29, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, okay. I get it. Thanks. -KingKlaus07 (talk) 11:35, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion: New Articles on Bonnie Bennett and Caroline Forbes

[edit]

Should we make new articles on Bonnie and Caroline? Because, other than Stefan and Damon (and Matt, but not counting him here), they're the only characters who've been main characters in the show. So, shouldn't they get their own pages? -KingKlaus07 (talk) 11:40, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Neo the Twin, your thoughts, please? -KingKlaus07 (talk) 11:40, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
KingKlaus07, mate, you really don't have to get everything you do through me first as I'm not an expert, draft your article then submit it for review at {{AfC submission}} and other editors will take it from there. Neo the Twin (talk) 11:52, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Neo the Twin - Yeah, yeah, I know. But you have more experience than I do, so I could use your thoughts on this. -KingKlaus07 (talk) 12:41, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

create separate entry on Katherine

[edit]

Katherine being a very important character and doppelganger of Elena deserves a separate entry, furthermore she is the character with which the story of the Salvatore brothers begins. if you agree you could separate Katherine's voice. Antoniosvb (talk) 07:53, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
