Nijō Castle is included in List of National Treasures of Japan (residences) but not here. Why in this case isn't there an overlap? Is it to do with how the Japanese state defines their national treasures? Nev1 (talk) 17:52, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the categories ("residences", "castles",...) go back to the Agency of Cultural Affairs. Also note, that the castle structures in this list are all multi-story structures with a clear defensive purpose (basically a keep with attached structures). The national treasure structures at Nijō Castle on the other hand all belong to the Ninomaru Palace. They are just palace (or residential) structures without military purpose. bamse (talk) 18:51, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, I though that would be the case but wanted to check. Nev1 (talk) 18:57, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, many of the other residential national treasures in List of National Treasures of Japan (residences) are located at temples. However they are not listed in the category of temple national treasures because they are residences and not worship-related structures. bamse (talk) 15:39, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Matsue Castle

[edit]

Matsue Castle (the donjon) has been accepted as a new National Treasure. It will be officially added, so this article, the castle article, etc should be updated. ChubbyWimbus (talk) 04:20, 17 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
