Interesting side note
There IS a John J. Pershing Veterans Administration Medical Center, located in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. As best I can tell, there is no obvious parallel either between the real "Blackjack" VAMC and "General General" or between Poplar Bluff and the fictional "River Bend, Missouri." 'Hot Lips Houlihan'
I just listened to a 1948 broadcast of the Jimmy Durante radio show, on which a character, a Vassar co-ed, was identified by this name. Hmmmm.Toyokuni3 (talk) 01:19, 5 March 2018 (UTC)
- I'm not familiar with that radio show, but from searching online, I found that there was a character called "Hot Breath Houlihan" on that show. Could that be the character you're thinking of? It's similar to "Hot Lips" but not the same. Miles26 (talk) 03:00, 5 March 2018 (UTC)
- Could be, but it invites the same curiosity.Toyokuni3 (talk) 06:53, 5 March 2018 (UTC)
Number of episodes
"and by Alan Alda on television, where he was the only character to appear in all 251 episodes." - but the MASH article says there were 256 episodes. 165.120.122.136 (talk) 19:18, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- The 2.5 hour finale, "Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen" sometimes airs as five separate episodes in reruns, but counting it as a single episode (which is how it originally aired), there were 251. JTRH (talk) 20:49, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
Whitling down
I've taken a big red editor's pen to the regular-character descriptions, reducing the level of detail about what happened in which episode and focusing on the broader outlines of the characters. There's still room for improvement. If you feel strongly about something I took out, please try to re-incorporate it into the new version rather than reverting. -Jason A. - And yes, I realize that some of the regular-character descriptions are shorter now than some of the recurring characters. The solution to that is to trim the latter. :) -Jason A. Quest (talk) 21:10, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you. It drives me nuts when "list of character" articles become bogged down with nonsense like "in Episode 7.03, Bobby Hill wears black socks instead of white, and in Episode 8.12 he is shown playing the clarinet." PurpleChez (talk) 17:09, 11 October 2018 (UTC)
Klinger's religion
Klinger praying to "Allah" does not necessarily conflict with the idea that the character, like the actor portraying him, is Christian. Arab Christians also use the word "Allah" - it's not a name... it's just the Arabic word for god. PurpleChez (talk) 17:02, 11 October 2018 (UTC)
