Lalchhanhima Sailo is not a member of the "Bnei Menashe", a term used to identify people from Manipur and Mizoram who practise Judaism and believe they are descendants of the biblical tribe of Manasseh. LS is an avowed Christian, though he does believe that the Mizos are descendants of the tribe of Ephraim, not Manasseh. Whereas the BM seek to return to Israel, LS proposes that Mizoram and adjoining territories should be seen as their Pomised Land.

In an undated early publication, "The Sheep fold of Christ: Krista Beram Huang", LS indicates that Jesus came into this world to search for the "lost sheep or tribe of Israel". One of the proofs that he cites as to the Mizos' origins is from Ezekiel 4:15, wherein the prophet declares that the wayward Israelites would prepare their food with cowdung, and "The Mizo up till now prepared food from cow dung" - actually the contents of the intestines of slaughtered cattle. LS proposes a research project to find other lost Israelites by seeing which other communities around the world enjoy eating cowdung.

LS is a law graduate and a member of the former chiefly clan of Mizoram, who has stood for election to the State's Legisltive Assembly. He is the founder of the "Chhinlung Israel Peoples' Convention". "Chhinlung" is the Mizo name for the cave from which legend holds that the Mizos and allied tribes had originally emerged. The CIPC thus draws together two different ideas about their origins. This organisation has a populist agenda, combining Mizo nationalism, Christianity and the idea of Israelite origins for the Mizos.

1994 marked the Centennary of Christian missioanry activity in the region. CIPC issued Mizos with letters to forward to the government of India and to creditors, pointing out that, as the Centennary of Christianity, this was a "Jubilee year" for the Mizos, and in accordance with the bible, all their debts should be written off. Here it is the creditor who is being asked to respect the religion of the Mizo by forgiving the latter's debts, whereas the Jubilee presumably should operate in such a manner whereby the believer would waive the debts owed to him.

A further campaign of the CIPC was a petition, apparently signed by thousands and submitted to the UN, seeking recognition of their Israelite ancestry and the right to self determination independent of either India or Burma.Myer Samra 17:29, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
