[edit]Referring to this opera as La favorite is perfectly correct, however it is normally performed under the title La favorita (the Italian version). How can we provide a link connecting La favorita with La favorite? - - Kleinzach 14:30, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

Arrangement
[edit]Currently we say: "Antonio Pasculli arranged the work for oboe and piano/orchestra". Presumably this is a reference to this. Which is very nice. But clearly not the whole opera ;-) Could someone tell me which parts of the opera this work is drawing on? almost-instinct 13:35, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
- It's a "Concerto sopra motivi dell'opera La favorita [sic] di Donizetti", so may actually be somewhat longer than the Youtube clip. There seems to be a downloadable file here but my computer doesn't like the look of it. The big numbers in the opera are "Ange si pur"/"Spirto gentil" for the tenor and "O mon Fernand"/"O mio Fernando" for the mezzo. --GuillaumeTell 17:34, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

La favorite (The Favourite) is a grand opera in four acts by Gaetano Donizetti to a French-language libretto by Alphonse Royer and Gustave Vaëz, based on the play Le comte de Comminges by Baculard d'Arnaud. The plot revolves around a love triangle involving Alphonse (Alfonso XI), King of Castile; his mistress Léonor (Leonora), the titular favourite; and her lover Fernand (Fernando). The story unfolds against the background of Moorish Spain and power struggles between church and state. The opera premiered in Paris in 1840, with further performances being staged in England, Italy, the United States and elsewhere. This lithograph, forming the frontispiece to the first-edition vocal score of La favorite, depicts Rosine Stoltz as Léonor and Gilbert Duprez as Fernand. Lithograph credit: Émile Desmaisons, after François-Gabriel Lépaulle; restored by Adam Cuerden
