Graded Stakes Wins

I propose to remove this section because Wikipedia is not a catalog and the information is already addressed in the infobox. JRHorse (talk) 14:04, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Into paragraphs

[edit]

Hi JRHorse and Community, I have written a possible Bio Intro for this page. Please make any suggestions or changes. I am very new on here and would really love to help. I am not sure if I am suppose to post it on page or not. I thought it's safer it I put it here for everyone to see first!

Kenneth G. McPeek (born August 2, 1962) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse trainer and bloodstock agent. McPeek is best known for winning the 2024 Kentucky Derby (G1) with Mystic Dan and the 2024 Kentucky Oaks (G1) with Thorpedo Anna, becoming the third trainer in history to sweep both races in the same year. The 2024 Kentucky Derby win also made McPeek one of only five living trainers who have won all three Triple Crown races. McPeek won his first classic in 2002 with the 70-1 longshot Sarava in the Belmont Stakes (G1). Eighteen years later, he won the 2020 Preakness (G1) with the filly Swiss Skydiver.

As a bloodstock agent, McPeek is known for purchasing talent for modest prices at auctions. He purchased two-time Horse of the Year Curlin at the 2005 Keeneland sale for $57,000 and the 2020 Preakness winner Swiss Skydiver for $35,000. McPeek saddled his 2,000th career winner on February 21, 2024, at Turfway Park with a first-time starter by Justify. As of July 31, 2024, he has career earnings of $126,474,936.

Please let me know if I made any mistakes. I will add links and references to page, if you like it.

Mobile App

[edit]

I think this entire section should be deleted. This is basically an ad for his mobile app. This is not what he is known for. He is known as a trainer and a bloodstock agent. Is it okay to delete the entire section? I cleaned up everything that was unsourced and "ad like" under the Training Facilities section. @JRHorse: (Annointed777 (talk) 03:44, 3 August 2024 (UTC)) Annnointed777 Also On the section Personal Life - I had a source for the last sentence, but Wikipedia wouldn't take the source. Horse Racing Nation. I was not sure what to do with that. That is the reason that the last sentence is not sourced.[reply]

Changes made to Page

[edit]

Hi Ggzion - I wanted to go over all the changed you made- I out most back and I want to explain why. I also out explanations in the edit summary. First you wrote in your summary that you removed/edited some heavily opinion oriented sentences. I first would like to clear this up.

This page was on a list to that needed to be edited. JRHorse also had a request asking someone to work on this page. The page had many problems. It looked like a brochure for McPeek. There was a section for his mobile app and his training center. Both were deleted. I do not Kenneth McPeek. I have never met him. I wanted to re-write this page fairly. With that being said I will go over each edit.

1. You deleted "significant" I tried to simply the Mayors statement. She believes it was a significant contribution. I put in her actual quote instead with a reference. Her quote seems way over the top to me, but it is the quote. This cannot be disputed. I included the reference.

2. Background - you changed wording. Thank you - I think you made the sentence structure much better.

3. You changed, entrusted to tasked. That is fine. His father did entrust him, but if you feel tasked is better then I think it's okay. I didn't touch it.

4. You changed stable to inventory - This is really not a god edit. Horses are not not inventory. They are living, breathing, beautiful, noble animals. I would never want anyone to think a trainer made that statement. I am sure you did not mean it, bit it is very insulting. For a horse person, that really sounds terrible and is unacceptable. 4a. You deleted six states. This again is referenced. It is one thing to have 160 in one state and 160 in six states. This is a really important fact. It is neither pro or con, it is just a fact. I put this back in.

4. You took out "Savvy Shopper" This is a fact. It is been the name of the article. There are many articles that say basically the same thing. A great bargain hunter, - known for purchasing modest price horses. Each article basically says the same thing. This is an industry that I am really familiar with so I know that this is his reputation. It's an important distinction for him. Many trainers have more money than they can spend. He is known to have "working class horses" and "working class clients." This is an important part of his story and an important part of Thoroughbred horse racing. There are some trainers who can compete at the top levels on a budget. This is inclusive. It's important for it to stay in. 4a. You deleted "rooted in" I'm fine with that.

5. Year 2000 - you deleted notable. I put it back in. Notable is an understatement. This horse and this purchases deserves some respect. This is a very hard thing to do.

6. You deleted - a modest sum - for Curlin. $57,000 is a modest some for any horse at the Keeneland sales. Again this is important because not all people know what a yearling at Keeneland sells for. This page is not just for experienced horse people. The goal is for everyone to learn something. I put this back in.

7. You deleted - The paragraph about "his strategy" I actually bet back and forth on this paragraph. The reason I ended up including it was that I would want to know what he says his strategy is. He has had a lot of success in purchasing low-priced horses at auctions. What do you think about just adding - His strategy involves finding value in overlooked prospects? I really studied to try and find as much information as I could on this. This is where I think he shined. This to me is really the interesting part of the page, but there just isn't as much reference material about this. Would you be Intrested in working on this part of the page with me? I agree is sounds a little like hype, but it is referenced and I couldn't find a lot of other sources. I had sources from Horse Racing Nation but Wikipedia said it's Black Listed, I don't why. That is why I included the last paragraph. I didn't add it back. I would like this section improved on.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. After the explanations, I hope you agree. @Ggzion: (Annointed777 (talk) 19:15, 20 August 2024 (UTC)) Annointed777[reply]

Thanks for correcting me, I don't really know much about horse prices and whatnot. About the strategy, the strategy alone would be fine, I find people's unique skills interesting. I think what made me delete it was just the overall hype of the page which made his strategy look hyped too. Also, where does it say Horse Racing Nation is blacklisted? I couldn't find a list, if there were any. I'd be up to work on this with you if you need me. Cheers. Ggzion (talk) 08:29, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple Issue Notice

[edit]

Hi everyone, I would like to move the "multiple issue notice" on the page. I think all these issues are fixed. Does anyone have a problem with that? @JRHorse: @Wikiprojectracehorse: @StefenTower: (Annointed777 (talk) 19:36, 20 August 2024 (UTC))[reply]

I haven't evaluated whether the previous tags were satisfied (I'll go by WP:AGF on that), but I did add a cleanup tag about a glaring issue in the article. We expect prose only where the article currently shows inline bolded headers and a stiff chronology. Stefen 𝕋owers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 22:03, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Stefen, thank you for helping with this page! "Glaring issue in the article. We expect prose only where the article currently shows inline bolded headers and a stiff chronology". I didn't know this. I have seen it on other pages and I thought that was a good way to do it. What would you suggest? Should I change it into paragraphs? Is there anything else you see that is incorrect or I could improve on the page? @StefenTower: (Annointed777 (talk) 22:35, 21 August 2024 (UTC)) Annointed777[reply]

If other articles are doing this, they also should be fixed or tagged. Rewriting into strict encyclopedic paragraphs is how it's fixed. If subheadings end up being needed, then our usual subheadings (===Subheading===) should be added but those also are expected to not be densely used (i.e., they tend to have more than one paragraph under each one). Hope this helps. Stefen 𝕋owers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 22:44, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Stefen. It so helps. I am so grateful for your help. I would have been trying to fix pages and I would have been messing them up. I am fixing it now. I will let you know when I have the page completed. You are the BEST! @StefenTower: (Annointed777 (talk) 01:02, 23 August 2024 (UTC))[reply]

I think this page is fixed! I didn't take the heading off, I'll let you do it if you think it's fixed! Thank you again! There is a long list of trainers, jockeys that need work, do you have anyone particular one you would like me to work on. I know the most about US trainers, jockeys, horses and I'm very knowable about Arabian horses. I would feel more comfortable doing a couple pages you suggest so I make sure I'm doing everything correctly. If you are up for it. I appreciate you so much. Thank you! P.S. I just did my 1,000th edit. It's because of you and people like you that are so willing to help that will make people stay and enjoy this. It's really intimidating at first. Thank you again!!! @StefenTower: (Annointed777 (talk) 01:45, 23 August 2024 (UTC))[reply]

Thank you for satisfying the cleanup tag, and I have removed it. I also did some copyedits and cleanup. I can't think of a trainer or jockey offhand that we need work on (I may get back to you on that), but I know we could use a new article for John Asher, radio journalist and Churchill Downs executive, considered an ambassador for both Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby [1] Stefen 𝕋owers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 01:29, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Stephen,
Love the edits you made, especially adding the 150th Kentucky Derby. Thank you for all the clean up you did on this article. I think his page looks really good now. I'll start researching John Asher and start his page. I will let you know when I have enough for you to review! Thank you for mentoring me! I really appreciate it! If you think of a trainer, jockey, horse of other that needs a page, you can add it to my list! I'm excited to learn about John Asher, I'm sure he's really interesting. Thank you again. You are the BEST!!! @StefenTower: (Annointed777 (talk) 03:19, 24 August 2024 (UTC))[reply]
