Early life section
[edit]Can someone with access confirm that the info in this section is supported by the ref given? I would, but WP:PAYWALL. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:08, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- I've removed all uncited information now. The West Australian reference mentions Fred Chaney, Michael Chaney and Fred Chaney Sr., but not John Chaney or her mother. Steelkamp (talk) 08:26, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks! I wrote a message at User talk:Smokeycat1. Now that she's elected, some of the WP:BLPPRIMARY info may turn up in usable sources. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:37, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
gov website
[edit]Anyone know when https://www.aph.gov.au/Senators_and_Members/Parliamentarian_Search_Results?q=&mem=1&par=-1&gen=0&ps=0 is likely to update and include her? According to WP, she's been MP for a week now. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:21, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
- A number of new Members will be in the next Parliament. They won’t be included at this website until after the poll is formally finalised in each of the respective electoral Divisions. They may not appear on this site until close to the opening of the new Parliament. Dolphin (t) 10:31, 28 May 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Hi @Hoprex, and welcome to Wikipedia! I just reverted your edits to this article. The electionnumbers were already there, the link to her website is in the infobox on the right, "See also" is for links to WP-articles, and WP:ABOUTSELF. About Commons, you don't have the right to claim that other peoples pics are " Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International". If that was the fact, her website would have stated it, but it doesn't. Copyright rules are annoying, but it's how it is.
This article is supposed to summarize what WP:RS independent of Kate Chaney has said about Kate Chaney. Other stuff is mostly outside WP:s scope. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:54, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for that, I understand images are annoying to source and I thank you for sharing that. I was hoping my addition to 'Personal life' was still valid (Sourced from her website https://www.katechaney.com.au/about-kate/bio/). "Kate lives in West Leederville with her three kids and husband Bill. Kate attended John XXIII College and later the University of Western Australia. Kate joined law firm Blake Dawson Waldron based in Sydney in 1998 after graduating university. In 2OO3 she finished an MBA and moved to the Boston Consulting Group as a strategic advisor in multiple sectors. Kate was GM Business Development at Westralia Airports Corp then moved to Wesfarmers Limited taking up numerous positions." Would you say this is ok? However thank you for helping me with this edit! Hoprex (talk) 12:01, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Hoprex Thanks for replying. IMO, this is too much per WP:ABOUTSELF/WP:BLPSELFPUB #1 , but pluspoints for avoiding WP:COPYPASTE. We should wait for independent sources on this (education/career), and in the meantime, people can read her webpage. See also WP:BLPNAME on including names of family. Pinging @Steelkamp who started the article, if you have an opinion. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:19, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
- I think the sourcing is fine as there is also a newspaper source there which shows most of those claims there to be correct. I agree with the concerns about WP:BLPNAME so I have fixed that. I noticed that the information that was added was very closely paraphrased from the website so I changed that as well. The page looks fine to me now. Steelkamp (talk) 04:20, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- For the non-Australians, is there a good wikilink for "Aboriginal affairs"? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:48, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- I have added the link to the Wikipedia page for the Department of Aboriginal Affairs accordingly Hoprex (talk) 07:06, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- I've changed the link so that it points to Aboriginal Australians, which is a better link target. Steelkamp (talk) 07:08, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- I guess that's as close as we get, afaict this was private sector, so Department of Aboriginal Affairs doesn't seem to fit. I was hoping for something more specific, but I don't know what Aboriginal Affairs at Wesfarmers may involve. Perhaps Closing the Gap is related. Or Reconciliation in Australia. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:18, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- It could be Wesfarmers' Reconciliation Action Plan, but a search for "Kate Chaney" on Wesfarmers web site returns no hits for her. (I haven't checked all the individual reports.) Mitch Ames (talk) 08:47, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not sure where the confusion stems from here: Steelkamp linked to the obvious place for a wikilink if there was any doubt about what that meant (essentially, a manager responsible for issues related to Aboriginal people). The specificities of her job description are probably unsourceable and unencyclopedic, and given the size and breadth of Wesfarmers' operations it seems extremely likely it was multifaceted and not easily pinned down to some hyperspecific topic. (The Department of Aboriginal Affairs is irrelevant in a corporate job that had nothing to do with it, and then it seems we're just linking random topics related to Aboriginal issues.) The Drover's Wife (talk) 09:00, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- I don't know that there's confusion, but I thought it was interesting that a private company had an Aboriginal affairs manager, and wanted a good wikilink to something like Aboriginal affairs in the Australian private sector or as close as possible. I didn't have any doubt on what "Aboriginal" meant. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:09, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not sure it's a distinct, encyclopedic or verifiable topic, as what that looks like completely depends on the business, size and scope and corporate attitudes of the individual company. The Drover's Wife (talk) 09:10, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- Very possible. It could also be something large companies are required or encouraged to have a policy or something on. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:16, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- Not legally, not encouraged in any official sense, though many may think it in their commercial/PR interests to do so (but what that is would be completely different depending on the company). A common feature of this may be a Reconciliation Action Plan (which should have its own article and absolutely not redirect to a tangentially related organisation), but that's unlikely to be of overwhelming significance to any given company's work in the area, and is completely irrelevant to Chaney's history (even if she had developed one there, that wouldn't be notable enough for her article). There seems to be a lot of assumptions going on about a subject you're admittedly not very familiar with. The Drover's Wife (talk) 09:25, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- I don't see a lot of assumptions going on in the above discussion, but I am indeed not very familiar with Australian politics, that's why I asked "For the non-Australians, is there a good wikilink for "Aboriginal affairs?" on this talkpage. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:40, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- It's that you got an answer and then kept making assumptions that gets a bit odd. The Drover's Wife (talk) 09:49, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- If you say so. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:59, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Inclusion on Chaney page
[edit]In order to make finding this page about Kate Chaney easier, shouldn't Kate be included on the Chaney page (Chaney - Wikipedia) which already lists her father, uncle and grandfather? Crash411 (talk) 03:14, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
