Ambiguity about death

[edit]

He was declared to have died on 8 May 1945 by which time the Auschwitz camp had been liberated by the Soviets in January 1945 and all prisoners on site were under medical care some months after who could not immediately move out. Therefore is it correct to say (in the lead summary) that he was 'killed by the Nazis' when the declared date of his death was the same as VE Day when Nazi Germany surrendered to the Allies? There needs some clarification as the statement as it is reads anachronistically. If there are published details of when he was last recorded to be seen alive it would be good to see read them. At this stage of the war the gas chambers and the crematoria would have been out of action and post-liberation dead (from disease or malnutrition) buried rather than cremated.Cloptonson (talk) 08:23, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have added, with citation to a German publication, from the German wikipedia article that some assume he was gassed on arrival at Auschwitz as no surviving camp documents register his arrival. In the German wikipedia article on statistics relating to the German national football team, the date of 2 March 1943 is given as his date of death.Cloptonson (talk) 08:37, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
