has the name as Smyth and cursory googling for "John Henry Smyth" brings back this guy as the PRIMARYTOPIC for the namespace we're currently using for an English Parliamentary backbencher. Smyth wrote Smyth himself on his consular reports (1, 2, etc.) and official letters (3, etc.). Are there just two valid spellings? and, if so, which one is actually more standard/official? or is the current name just a mistake from the nameplate that we copied over? — LlywelynII 10:34, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Note also that his descendant John Henry Clavell Smythe also shows up as John Henry Smythe and J. H. Smythe, so (assuming the Smythe spelling ends up valid for this guy as well) he should be kept in a dab note. — LlywelynII 10:49, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
