Correction Requested

Hello -

I am a direct descendant of John E Mellish (great grandson). I was aghast to read the article stating he confessed to incest. From what I recall of the family history, there was questions about the accuser(s) real motives, and the charges were later dropped and never made it to court. He was never convicted of such a crime, thus the entire paragraph seems to call upon news media speculation and hearsay of the day. I would humbly request this be removed from the article as I feel it disparages my great grandfather's reputation and memory.

Newspaper of yesteryear and today make all kinds of claims that are eventually found to be untrue. Simply because it was published does not make it truthful. Again, no conviction in a court of law make this speculation and hearsay. S.H.Mellish (talk) 23:10, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
