Neutrality

[edit]

I strongly consider this description only a personal evaluation and not correspondent to the reality. If it is in fact true that, as in every other part of the world, in Cuba you can find people that organize frauds against the tourists (not necessarily jineteras), it is also true that the jineritism is not simplicity to be brought back to the prostitution but - at the most - to the activity developed by the escorts and similars. Ridiculous then the consideration that this activity is developed to escape from Cuba, considering that already from 2012 there is a law for the free emigration of the Cuban people, nevertheless the last revision of this article is on 2013, December. (http://www.cubalegalinfo.com/decreto-ley-no-302-modificativo-de-la-ley-no-1312-%E2%80%9Cley-de-migraci%C3%B3n%E2%80%9D). Can so we affirm, then, that this is politically oriented evaluation, supported only by documents of the United States that, it is known, don't have good relationships with the Republic of Cuba. Finally, I believe that this voice of Wikipedia should be written by people that are not of the two interested Countries or Cubans and U.S. citizens to be more objective. This article is ridiculus and it has a political orientation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 187.127.90.6 (talk) 20:13, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A proper article can be written about this phenomenon, not just a dicdef. -- The Anome 04:10, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, plus it should be merged with jinetera. --die Baumfabrik 22:08, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Jinetera has now been merged with prostitution. Perhaps the merge should be to Cuba. Jlittlet 23:16, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am a university student who for my final project, will be editing this page. Please know that this is my first time editing a page on Wikipedia, so have a bit of a learning curve. Aaghay1 (talk) 19:19, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the article certainly has plenty of room for improvement. You might like to take a look at some other articles to get some idea on what an article should look like. For a new editor, making a small edit and waiting to see if it "sticks" may be a good approach. An edit that will hardly ever be reverted is the addition of a good reliable source to an article, especially if, like this one, it is severely lacking in such. Good luck, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 02:11, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So, this advice was not heeded. I reverted another mass addition with this edit summary: "Sorry, you really need to study how a Wikipedia article is constructed, and then discuss possible changes to this (very poor!) one on the talkpage. Large-scale additions of material by new editor..". If space had allowed, it would have continued "...s are unlikely to survive. First learn the ropes, then swing on them." May I suggest reading WP:Begin, and then considering making some small edit to the article and then waiting to see what happens? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 03:19, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Split

[edit]

I believe its should be renamed Prostitution in Cuba as opposed to Jineterismo Dwanyewest (talk) 01:00, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Jineterismo refers to more activities than just prostitution, ie any illegal profiteering involving tourists. And plus, as it discusses in the article there is some dispute about whether jinateras are actually prostitutes. Jdcooper (talk) 12:19, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Prostitution in Cuba should have a separate article then if that is the case because they are clearly two separate subjects. Dwanyewest (talk) 00:13, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see that there has been a move, but nobody has edited the article to reflect that move. — Ƶ§œš¹ [ãːɱ ˈfɹ̠ˤʷɪ̃ə̃nlɪ] 14:43, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved it back. It's clear from the content of the article that this isn't really about prostitution. — Ƶ§œš¹ [ãːɱ ˈfɹ̠ˤʷɪ̃ə̃nlɪ] 01:32, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Split or rename

The result of this discussion was to merge one section of this article into Crime in Cuba and split the other section of this article into Prostitution in Cuba Polly Tunnel (talk) 14:56, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think this article should be split into a seperate article like Prostitution in Cuba or renamed Prostitution in Cuba. Dwanyewest (talk) 21:41, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think you're absolutely right. I've proposed a merger of the general content of this article to the Crime in Cuba article. I don't know if that will be contentious or not – the discussion (if there is one) will be on the Crime in Cuba talk page. In the meantime I would agree that that the prostitution content on this page should be given its own article under the title Prostitution in Cuba. That page can easily be recovered from its current status (it redirects to this page). Jineterismo can then become a redirect page to the Crime in Cuba page, which itself can include an in-line link to the Prostitution in Cuba page. Polly Tunnel (talk) 11:50, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • There doesn't seem to be much discussion of this proposal yet. I'll try to ping some of the people who were involved previously (user:Jdcooper, user:Anthony Appleyard, user:Aeusoes1) to gather their views:
  1. Should there be an article entitled "Prostitution in Cuba"?
  2. Should there be an article entitled "Jineterismo"?
  3. Should the content here be moved to the "Crime in Cuba" article?
Polly Tunnel (talk) 18:14, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I must admit I have no recollection of editing this page as it was before my wikihiatus of many years, but FWIW: I think your proposal sounds best Polly. Crime in Cuba and Prostitution in Cuba are the most sensible page titles and correspond to the respective pages for other countries. The subject of this article can be better contextualised on other pages. Jdcooper (talk) 21:12, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I say we merge this article with Crime in Cuba. It's practically a stub. If someone comes along at a later date to expand on either the concept (or term) of Jineterismo, then a separate article would be justified. The same with prostitution in Cuba. — Ƶ§œš¹ [lɛts b̥iː pʰəˈlaɪˀt] 15:01, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
