What was the nature of Ivan's illness?

[edit]

I find it odd that although the fact that he was "infirm of body and mind" and "mentally-challenged" completely defined his life, nothing is said about what was actually wrong with Ivan, except that during the last decade of his short life he was a religious maniac, and by the age of 27 he was "senile, paralytic, and almost blind". Since whoever wrote this apparently felt it would be too embarrrasing and/or disrespectful to somebody who died over 300 years ago to name the disease which damaged his eyesight, mobility and brain so catastrophically that he was dead before he was 30, I assume it must have been syphilis. If it wasn't, maybe you should be a little less vague? This is after all supposed to be an encyclopedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.51.234.223 (talk) 23:52, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
