Hi. I don't think the term "popular" reflects the meaning that the word popolare has in Italian. A partito popolare is translated as "people's party" in English. Translating "Italia è popolare" as "Italy is popular", it sounds like saying that the party theme is about the popularity of Italy among other nations, and not about the "people's" attribute of the party.
