Article Improvement

[edit]

I doubt that there is a great deal to say about the collective history of these islands and the best way to improve the article seems to me to be to create a summary of the individual island articles. Ben MacDui 12:31, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Having done that it seems to me that some of the detail could now be moved into the introductory general sections such as history and natural history to improve the flow. Ben MacDui 09:48, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Very well illustrated, well researched and well written. Broad in coverage with a substantial amount of detail also. Good referencing. Neutral and stable. Passed. Johnfos (talk) 00:29, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reference to other parts of Scotland

[edit]

I'm not sure the last line of the intro section is relevant, i.e. "There are relatively few islands of any size off eastern Scotland, and most of those that are, are in this group." The article is about the islands of the Forth. If the reader wants to know about the islands of Scotland then there should be a separate article about the 'islands of Scotland'. Also, the protracted (though modestly, I admit!) mention of Scotland assumes a national viewpoint or national interest which is not necessarily the case for every reader. I suggest the sentence should be deleted (though I do agree the article is good!). --Laird of abbeyhill (talk) 21:22, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is relevant. These are the only substantial group off the east coast. (Northern Isles narrowly miss being that.)--MacRùsgail (talk) 13:32, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There is a List of islands of Scotland - linked via the template at the bottom of the page. Readers interests will no doubt be varied but I don't think a single sentence is overdoing the insular geography. Most of the related lists have some such phrase setting the scene.
