Ordinals
[edit]"Isabel de Clare, 4th Countess of Pembroke" seems wrong? Earls are of course numbered, but surely not countesses in their own right? I should have thought this should be at Isabel de Clare, Countess of Pembroke. Moonraker2 (talk) 05:41, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
- Peeresses in their own right have ordinal numbers. Had Isabel been the consort instead of the suo jure countess, then the article would not contain an ordinal number.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 06:38, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
Song of Dermot
[edit]I linked to the article on this historical poem. But who "suggested" that Isabel de Clare commissioned it, and why? I've asked for a citation. Andrew Dalby 20:11, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, I see now that this is mentioned again near the end of the article and a reference is given, so I've removed the "citation needed" template. However, reading the reference that's supplied shows that the suggestion was made in 1892 by Paul Meyer, not by Antonia Gransden. What she does is to cite later authors who observe that it doesn't work because the Song as we know it was composed a few years after Isabel's death. The idea that Isabel might still be somehow responsible seems to me to be original synthesis: Gransden doesn't say this. Andrew Dalby 21:07, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing this out. It appears that Meyer made the original suggestion.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 13:36, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Place of Birth
[edit]There seems to be some dispute as to her place of birth. Please add sources. PeterCDavid (talk) 09:40, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
Proposed merge of Gilbert de Clare, 3rd Earl of Pembroke into Isabel de Clare, 4th Countess of Pembroke
[edit]Wikipedia is not a directory of everyone who ever lived, and notability is not inherited. The only thing this biography says is that Gilbert inherited the title and died as a teenager. The significance of his bio is that the title passed to his sister, who is notable. A few of the details and sources could easily be merged into the article about Isabel de Clare. Cielquiparle (talk) 04:34, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
- Cielquiparle, what are your thoughts of just merging Gilbert de Clare, 3rd Earl of Pembroke into his parent's article, Richard de Clare, 2nd Earl of Pembroke? It would only consist of two sentences, "In 1176, Gilbert inherited the Earl of Pembroke from his father, making him the 3rd Earl of Pembroke.[3] He died in 1185/1189 and passed the title to his sister, Isabel de Clare, making her suo jure 4th Countess of Pembroke." --Paramandyr (talk) 02:55, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
