Merge proposal

[edit]

I propose merging Internet Archive cyberattack into Internet Archive. Currently this article is a news report of a single event (WP:NOTNEWS) which I think doesn't deserve an article on its own. Security issues and outages of Internet Archive's services have been common in the past and it would be better to generally describe this (including the event this article is about) in an own section of the Internet Archive's article instead. Alternatively, if this single event would be really that important that it meets the notability criteria I suggest moving this article to something like Internet Archive 2024 cyberattack because as I said it's not the first time the Internet got attacked resulting in an outage.

By the way: Posts of the Internet Archive on x.com (referenced two times) are not reliable sources and even on Internet Archive#History this event is described in more detail than in this whole article. Killarnee (talk) 09:10, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with such a merge.
Note, however, that according to WP:RSPX, As a self-published source, [Twitter/X] is considered generally unreliable and should be avoided unless the author is a subject-matter expert ... Twitter accounts should only be cited if the user's identity is confirmed in some way and as a founder of the Internet Archive (and retweeted by the IA), Brewster Kahle has a verifiable account and is a subject-matter expert. As the article currently is, it certainly should be merged. In fact, I don't think there's anything in it that isn't already in the main article. I would only change my mind on this if the separate article were greatly expanded to give more detail; does anybody have plans of doing such a thing? *Dan T.* (talk) 16:25, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Merge. Unless this event has a lasting impact in some way I don't see how it could be notable enough for its own article. This event does not yet meet the following criteria for inclusion as per WP:EVENT: lasting effects, geographical scope, depth of coverage, duration of coverage, or diversity of sources. While there are some RS reporting on this, most of them are sources that report on cyber security or related topics. Gideonrmt (talk) 16:39, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
