Edits that need to be done
[edit]As stated by the banner on the top of the page, this page has a lot of bias. It does not have much information about the actual organization and what they do, rather it focuses on unrelated people and things that should have their own page and not be on IIIT. For example; Basheer Nafi and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hamas, Sami Al-Arian and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Tarik A. Hamdi and al-Qaeda, and Contributions to Esam Omeish candidacy for state assemblyman should all have their own pages and not be on IIIT. The page needs more information regarding what the International Institute of Islamic thought actually does. For example their research project of Advancing education in Muslim Societies, their school programs (courses & certificates) through the Fairfax Institute, their libraries, etc. There is so much factual and necessary information missing on the page. Just check out their website and you will see all that they do.
This organization is still in operation
[edit]The March 2006 revision to this article says that the International Institute of Islamic Thought "was shut down by the FBI in 2002" and changed all the verbs in the article to past tense. Although there was a March 2002 raid of the organization's offices in Herdon, VA, I have not been able to find any further reporting on the results of that raid. That the organization is still in existence is confirmed by the fact that the links at the bottom of the article are still working, e.g. http://www.iiit.org/
Unless someone has information to the contrary, I suggest that the article be reverted to its 11 November 2005 version and the information about the raid having taken place be added to that page

- In the absence of any objections, I went ahead and made the changes suggested above today. (Catawba 20:10, 4 June 2006 (UTC))
16 Sep reversion by user EFG
[edit]EFG: If you have new information to support your 16 Sep 2006 alleged "vandalism reversion" well and good. Let's see it. Otherwise, your change makes this article factually incorrect and should itself be reverted. Whether we like it or not, the International Institute of Islamic Thought is still in operation. To verify this, click on its external link at the bottom of the main article. You can also google the phrase "Islamic Herndon, VA", click on Maps and see exactly where it is. If that's not enough to convince you, call the listed phone number and ask them yourself. (If you don't want them to see your phone number, dial *67 before placing the call.) - No. You have to provide a source supporting your assertion. You were the one who originally altered the content so the burden is on you. Saying that the website is still in operation does not prove that it still exists. I suggest you try and find a recent news article or activity the organization was involved in. - Thanks for providing the source. I will remove the unsourced, and clearly incorrect assertion that the organization no longer exists. In the future, please provide sources to support your edits. Thanks, EFG 20:49, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
- You're welcome. The problem was that KI's 26 March 2006 claim that IIIT had been shut down was itself unsubstantiated. That's why I raised the issue in the discussion section back in May and waited a few weeks before editing the main article. Catawba 21:10, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Removed the out of place and pointless quote from some extremist idiot in the UK
[edit]For fatawa against terrorism (from real recognized scholars), I suggest you look at this site:
http://www.answering-extremism.com/ae/default.aspx
Or perhaps this brilliant article:
http://thehumblei.com/2013/05/23/terrorism-is-to-jihad-as-adultery-is-to-marriage/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.66.106.71 (talk) 21:17, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
It’s not intellectually honest to quote random extremists like Chaudry whom no one with any knowledge takes seriously.
___________________________________________________ NOTE ABOUT 4/15/15 NPOV tag: The final paragraph is written in a non-neutral (Islamophobic) tone and contains misleading and irrelevant information. First of all, "Controversy has surrounded..." is not neutral language; it is dramatization. The point about "seed money" from "the Muslim Brotherhood" is also irrelevant for two reasons: first, the Muslim Brotherhood is not a static organization, and certainly does not make "terrorism" its primary business, no matter how it is regarded politically by various administrations. Second, "seed money" and ancient organizational history have no bearing on the reality of the current organization, which is not related to the Muslim Brotherhood. The author of the contentious paragraph is fearmongering.
The original NON-NEUTRAL paragraph text is included below:
″Controversy has surrounded Islamist radicalism at the Institute, which was founded with seed money from the Muslim Brotherhood. The FBI has raided the Institute seeking evidence of contributing terrorists, while members have been arrested and found to be active leaders of terrorist organizations. An Institute book justified violence against Israel as liberation struggle, not terrorism" ___________________________________________________
NPOV
[edit]The article is biased, particularly in favor of undermining academic nature and the scholarly output of the organization, and instead heavily focuses on portraying alleged links to terrorism clearly aimed at undermining credibility of institution. Please do not remove the relevant tag template until the issue is addressed. ~Mohammad Hossain~ 16:08, 2 May 2016 (UTC)

Copyright problem removed
[edit]Prior content in this article duplicated one or more previously published sources. Tarik Hamdi and al-Qaeda
[edit]I removed this section on Tarik Hamdi. Of the five sources used in the section, three were from The Investigative Project on Terrorism, which is not a reliable source. The fourth source did not work and the fifth source mentions IIIT only in passing. Snuish2 (talk) 04:10, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
Reverted removal as more discussion needed. May be better references instead of outright deletion?Trurle (talk) 08:02, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
- Why do you feel more discussion is needed? The sources do not establish a significant link to the International Institute of Islamic Thought. I'm curious why that material needs to be in the article at all, given that that is the case and WP:UNDUE. Snuish2 (talk) 08:35, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
See [1] which claim employment of Tarik Hamdi to International Institute of Islamic Thought. This section clearly involves conflict of interests, therefore abundance of low-reliability and/or false statements would be "normal". The truth must be carefully disentangled instead of discarding all data.Trurle (talk) 01:18, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- Right, that article mentions the organization once: "A call to his former employer, the International Institute for Islamic Thought in Herndon, was not returned yesterday." That still doesn't establish the need for the content to be here. It's not as if all of Google's employee's criminal records are explained on Google -- do you understand my point? Snuish2 (talk) 01:39, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
Basic problem is what you argue for removal of data placed by other users without proper investigation. This is not acceptable. Investigate first, continue with action (after proper proofs obtained) second. Also, good move is to contact the original editor of contents.Trurle (talk) 02:22, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- The order in which you suggest we move is a violation of WP:BURDEN on articles like this: "Do not leave unsourced or poorly sourced material in an article if it might damage the reputation of living people or existing groups..." I will remove the content within a few days if a stronger relationship cannot be established. Of course, if additional sources can be found that discuss the International Institute of Islamic Thought in relation to Tariq Hamdi, I agree that the section could be restored. Snuish2 (talk) 02:27, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- "if a stronger relationship cannot be established" - this is most crucial part of process you are reluctant to do. Also, the Ideological bias on Wikipedia#Collaborative edition on contested or slanted content article is relevant here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Trurle (talk • contribs) 02:55, 20 November 2020 UTC (UTC)
- I'm not "reluctant." Removal of poorly-sourced material is just as constructive as the addition of well-sourced material. Other editors can restore the material on their own if better sources are found. One editor need not do both. Snuish2 (talk) 03:04, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
Contributions to Esam Omeish candidacy for state assemblyman
[edit]I also removed this section. The only source that mentioned the International Institute of Islamic Thought in relation to Esam was https://www.vpap.org/candidates/109248/top_donors/. Snuish2 (talk) 22:56, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
