Starting Lineup

[edit]

First, I removed the succesion box, because I think it's based on a misguided notion that there is (was) a singular starting running back. The Bengals of that era used a two back offense, so to say that Woods followed Larry Kinnebrew in the starting lienup and was replaced by Brooks really isn't true. Brooks was the starting halfback before Woods arrived, while Woods was playing, and after he was injured. In fact, here's a list of the backs on the roster and how many games they started in the applicable years:

  • 1987 - Kinnebrew (8), Brooks (7), Stanford Jennings (5), Bill Johnson (4) (excluding strike games)
  • 1988 - Brooks (15), Woods (10), Stanley Wilson (6), Jennings (1)
  • 1989 - Brooks (14), Woods (2), Eric Ball (9), Jennings (6)
  • 1990 - Brooks (15), Woods (6), Harold Green (9), Ball (1), Craig Taylor (1)

I changed the text to say the Green had taken his job, because that's more accurate. Anson2995 02:21, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Citation needed

[edit]

"Ickey's best friend Tim Mullins of Union Township Cincinnati has been credited for teaching Ickey the famous endzone shuffle". Applied a citation needed tag for this. The requirements of WP:BLP and WP:NFT require a strong degree of verifiability from reliable sources when dealing with persons. We have no way of verifying anything about Tim Mullins, whether he is Ickey's best frind, or whether he had anything to do with inventing the Shuffle. In fact, if Ickey performed the Shuffle or anything like it at college (UNLV) or his high school, then the statement may be patently false. It may be that this was a vanity post by some kid as something made up in school one day in violation of WP:COI. But it has been on the article since it was added by anonymous editor 64.149.157.169 in April 2006 here. The anonymous editor's contributions suggest other instances of vanity. It is surprising that it has stood for this long. Plan to remove the probable grafitti post (it may fall short of vandalism, and it could actually be true) soon if there is no attempt to cite a source. --T-dot ( Talk/contribs ) 17:22, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On further review, the offending sentence has been removed. It is becoming clear it constitutes a longstanding bit of intentional anonymous vandalism, done in the same time frame with other examples of the same. --T-dot ( Talk/contribs ) 17:26, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
