Would I be correct is saying that a Hyperradiant Fresnel lens is like a regular Fresnel lens, but in the shape of a cylinder, rather than a disc? CybergothiChé (talk) 03:34, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There are actually two important features of the illustrated lighthouse lamp. I suspect the term Hyperradiant was a practical publicity term referring to the benefit that was sometimes included in the lighthouse and other lamp lenses, to focus the spherically radiant lamp light on the horizon. The salient Fresnel technology uses the principle of periodically reducing the thickness of the lens along a selected differential, with the purpose of reducing the lens mass. That is the same for the cylindrical and flat 'Fresnel lenses'. A couple of illustrations would probably help the article.

This source; The Cape Race Light Station Technical Information does in fact show that he was the first, it was mentioned by someone else, then him again, consistent with the article. I did not dig deep but with the above court ruling referenced (that was not provided) and the source I provided (can look for more) then I would say we need to present both sides. Hyperradiant?

I still have NO IDEA what is meant by hyperradiant. Hyper (very, a lot, high) hyper what? What is meant by larger than 'first order'? not even clear what 'first order' is. I agree with the above. It's something I'd try to fix myself but I'm not a lighthouse or optics buff. There's a lot of unexplained terminology in the article and fixing it would be a quick way to boost the quality.Brammers (talk/c) 12:08, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
