unitarian monotheism
[edit]From what I've been able to piece together, Judaism tends to teach unitarian monotheism. This makes it rather hard for me to understand Humanistic Judaism.
I've done quite a bit of research lately on unitarian monotheism.

Unitarian belief is often humanistic in outlook. However, Humanistic Judaism is non-theistic. Yet, the religion celebrates beliefs that our consistent with the philosophy of Humanistic Jews.

Number of aderents
[edit]Article states 50,000 adherents worldwide. The New York Times in 2007 cited 40,000 (in obituary of founder Rabbi Sherwin Wine). Since the 50,000 figure is unsourced, it would appear to be high. -- Elaine —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.89.192.125 (talk) 23:01, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
separation debated opinions from mutually agreed facts
[edit]I cleaned up some opinions, that were included in the body of the text. The author of that edit expressed the view that Humanistic Judaism was not Judaism because "Judaism is theistic." That misses the point that Humanistic Judaism is founded in opposition to that very principle. Humanistic Judaism may clash with older ideas of Judaism, but the question of "is it Judaism?" is debatable. Indeed, from the perspective of Humanistic Judaism, the question cannot have an immutable answer.
Maybe there should be a Criticism heading to cover the points of debate between Humanistic and other forms of Judaism. Thoughts? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Optional field (talk • contribs) 21:03, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Sources
[edit]The entire section of "Principles of belief and practices" has NO sources. I can't comment on the accuracy of the info, as I have no knowledge of it, but for there to be NO sources strikes me as kind of odd. Vyselink (talk) 13:52, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
- I've added two citations. Doesn't cover everything, but hopefully it helps. WorldsApart (talk) 07:35, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
