The paragraph relating to the 1987 restructure is not entirely accurate, in the sense that it does not give a complete picture. The explanation is necessary because Hoyts Cinemas, one of the three identities to come out of the restructure, was not listed until 1996. Errol Vieth 00:05, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that the Ace Cinemas link has been removed because it now redirects to The Movie Masters Cinema Group, a link for which can be found in this article. It is pointless having both links in the same article.--Klltr (talk) 08:04, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The locations section needs updating, due to the recent aquisitions of AMC and Berley Cinemas. --Klltr (talk) 05:38, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Something feels a little off about this article to me. It only seems to outline positive things about the company, but never negative things. For example, a recent edit I made was deleted. This means hat the article could be biased, and that needs fixing. --Klltr (talk) 03:34, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalisation of 'HOYTS'

[edit]

As far as I know, Wikipedia doesn't require that a company name be capitalised in its entirety (i.e. 'HOYTS') in articles merely because the company has chosen to do this in its own marketing and branding. Recent news articles in Australia still refer to the company with an initial capital only (i.e. 'Hoyts'). See, for instance, The Financial Review, The Advertiser, and The Sydney Morning Herald. I'd argue that we should continue to do likewise, despite recent edits to the contrary. Thanks. Meticulo (talk) 09:39, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Meticulo: You are absolutely correct. There is no need to inflict this torture on our readers. I have cleaned it up. Your instincts are good enough that you should be bold when you run across more like this. Chris the speller yack 16:43, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Name origin

[edit]

Is it possible that Hoyts is named after American actor John Hoyt? Should it be included in the article? Thomas Norren (talk) 22:24, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

His career started decades after the company was established in 1909. According to this source, the founder used the name of a small American circus he had been involved with. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 22:55, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh good, well perhaps that should be included as the name's origin, I believe we should have some name origin section there. Thomas Norren (talk) 23:07, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to add... I may or may not get back here - having plenty else to do at the moment! Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:34, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
