Hospital ship location?
[edit]In the International Law section, the last bullet point for the Hague X Convention conditions says: "Belligerents will establish the location of a hospital ship." The text of the convention is linked, but I can't see anything about establishig locations, or perhaps this is just badly worded? Alansplodge (talk) 15:57, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- I agree that the wording isn't great and even with beter wording I don't see how it should be incorporated in that list.
- I think the sentence in the wikipedia article is in reference to the last sentence in Article 6,
- The ships and boats above mentioned which wish to ensure by night the freedom from interference to which they are entitled, must, subject to the assent of the belligerent they are accompanying, take the necessary measures to render their special painting sufficiently plain.
- it could also be in reference this in Article 1 and the similar sentences in Article 2 and 3.
- the names of which shall have been communicated to the belligerent Powers at the commencement or during the course of hostilities, Jjoonnii (talk) 23:12, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Having looked closer at it the correct source to Belligerents will establish the location of a hospital ship. should be Article 169 of the San Remo Manual.
- In order to provide maximum protection for hospital ships from the moment of the outbreak of hostilities, States may beforehand make general notification of the characteristics of their hospital ships as specified in Article 22 of the Second Geneva Convention of 1949. Such notification should include all available information on the means whereby the ship may be identified.
- or Article 22 of the Second Hague Convention
- Military hospital ships, that is to say, ships built or equipped by the Powers specially and solely with a view to assisting the wounded, sick and shipwrecked, to treating them and to transporting them, may in no circumstances be attacked or captured, but shall at all times be respected and protected, on condition that their names and descriptions have been notified to the Parties to the conflict ten days before those ships are employed.
- The wording is wrong though portraying it as a requirement and it is referencing the wrong convention.
- In any case unless there are any objections I do believe this point should be removed from the list. Jjoonnii (talk) 23:34, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
Introduction photograph
[edit]Regarding that, it would be more informative to have a photograph that shows more than one kind of hospital ship. Dreddmoto (talk) 16:06, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
