Wikify need

[edit]

Well it's obviously plagiarized from somewhere. And it doesn't even say who "the enemy" was. Pretty bad writing. Wikify and improve quality. Bruxism 23:11, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • It does mention in the beginning that Hoshiar Singh belonged to the Grenadiers Regiment of the Indian Army. Also it is mentioned at the very beginning of the Military Action section that the action covered was the 1971 Indo Pak war. I think it does make it quite clear who "the enemy" was. The term, "the enemy" was used for for stylistic reasons.
  • I don't know what those "stylistic" reasons might be, but using the term "Pakistan" would give the article less POV, I think. Otherwise, it appears you are using a euphemism for effect, or to make a political point (e.g. by linking enemy with a pipeline so that it redirects to Pakistan). I also unlinked the superfluous use of links for both Pakistan and Major. There is some pretty blatant, and unsourced, POV (or at least overblown, non-encyclopedic rhetoric) in this article, e.g. "the most conspicuous gallantry in the face of the enemy, grim determination and indomitable spirit," and I still think it should be rewritten in more objective terms. Right now it just reads like hero worship. Peace, Bruxism 19:19, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • As mentioned in an earlier comment, this being the 1971 Indo Pak war, and Hoshiar Singh being an Indian Army major, the enemy was quite clearly Pakistan. While it was not meant to be in any way offensive, I used it to make the article more readable. Anyway, your suggestion of replacing the enemy with Pakistan Army is not a bad one and I will stick to it. The last line you mentioned was from the Indian army website mentioned in the external links section. I couldnot find any Pakistani Army account of this battle. THe ones available does not mention this incident. PVC is one of the few awards that has a rigorous selection process and a very low nomination to award ratio. Hence if any action was not "the most conspicuous gallantry ..." it would have never merited a PVC. I have further replaced "the enemy" with Pakistan. Also I have correct Pakistan Army to Pakistani Army. I think this should be fine. Do let me know your comments.Jordy 08:57, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Last paragraph is unrelated

[edit]

The last paragraph si so unrelated to an article on a PVC awardee. Why is it required in a biographical article?

Comments by Brig N Bahri, who as Major at that time, visited the site immediately after the ceasefire.Comments are based on what he saw and was told by troops located their and conversation with the GOC a little later.Gen Pinto is now located at Pune,India. 1. Arun Khetarpal was from 17 Horse, also known as Poona Horse. He was not from 3 Grenadiers.May be corrected. 2. The bridgehead established by Major Hoshiar Singh was counter attacked by a Frontier Force Battalion of Pakistan Army. This was led by a very brave Pakistani Officer who carried his sword and the attacking forces came within 40 yards of the Grenadier positions. While this spoke volumes of the bravery of the defenders;it also spoke of the near success of the Pakistan attackers.Maj Gen W A G Pinto,GOC of the Indian division, while visiting this location immediately after the ceasefire, met the Subedar Major of the Pakistan F F unit who was collecting their dead bodies, with tears in his eyes. The bravery of the Pakistani troops was self evident.Gen Pinto, immediately wrote out a citation recommending the Pakistani commanding officer for 'Halal e Jurrat',and pinned it to his clothes. This brave officer was later conferred the highest bravery award by the Govt of Pakistan.
