Team Name

[edit]

I think the most important questions this article can answer are: 1. What the heck is a Thourot? 2. Why was it the team mascot? (The following is speculative and original research but that's why I'm sharing it here and not adding it to the article.) I would assume this is a case of the team being named after an owner or coach, which was common in the early days of professional sports. According to Ancestry.com, Thourot was a family name with a strong presence in New Jersey up until the 1920s. Additionally, at least one branch of the Thourot family was present in New Haven, CT in the 1940 census, which would coincide with the team moving to Connecticut in the 1930s. And for a really strange twist: the NBA apparently filed for a trademark on "HOBOKEN THOUROTS" in 1993, 60 years after the team folded. The filing was abandoned in 1995.
