Wondering how to edit this U.S. County Entry?

Discrimination

[edit]

The County Commisioner, in July 2005, banned recognition of gay pride events by county government with minimal discussion (seventy two second to be pricise). The commissioners voted 5-to-1 to abstain from acknowledging, promoting or participating in gay pride recognition and events.

The Florida Library Association announced July 21 that its executive board had passed a resolution by electronic vote not to hold any official meetings in Hillsborough County until commissioners rescind the policy.

The County government has also been a subject to various racial discrimination suits.

Is there any reason for the picture on the bottom of the page showing the "entering hillsborough county" sign on the Skyway bridge? It seems an odd choice because the only part of the county you can get in to that way is over the water. That bridge goes to/from Pinellas and Manatee county. You only enter Hillsborough because there's a shipping lane under the bridge which is part of the county.

County Map

[edit]

I note on the county map that the 30 CDPs are all outlined there. I think it would be a big plus for the article if we could get the image to note each CDP--just a simple number in each block, tied in to a number on the list of CDPs. I could do the changes in photoshop and repost the image, but I'd be guessing at about half of the CDPs. Anybody know which CDP goes where? Thehappysmith 22:46, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Hillsborough County Fl Seal.jpg

[edit]

File:Hillsborough County Fl Seal.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:35, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clearing out duplicate entries

[edit]

I just removed a batch of unincorporated areas that had a notation "part of _________", which referenced a CDP listed in the previous section. There is absolutely no reason to have them listed twice, especially since most of the names of the communities appeared in the CDP. Horologium (talk) 20:37, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hillsborough UK

[edit]

The article states that Hilsborough County is names after the the Earl of Hillsborough in England. The Earl of Hillsborough was a peerage in Ireland, as opposed to Hillsborough (Sheffield) in England. Therefore i assume the article is incorrect... any thoughts? Bucktrout 23:59, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He might have been both. According to his Wikipedia entry, he was given a "second" Earldom of Hillsborough in the Peerage of Great Britain. Was that the one in England? Venqax (talk) 17:14, 11 July 2023 (UTC) Venqax[reply]

I certainly wouldn't claim to be an expert on peerages, but you seem to be correct. I'll adjust the wording for now pending further clarification. Zeng8r (talk) 00:08, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My question is why was a county in Florida named after a colonial-era British political figure in 1834? Venqax (talk) 17:07, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Venqax: It seems that the county was named after the Hillsborough River, which was named after the earl when he was governor of West Florida. See Hillsborough River (Florida)#Timeline. Donald Albury 23:26, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stepping Stones high

I added a Voter Registration section.

[edit]

Hey, I added the voter registration section as it was missing. For anyone who is unfamiliar with it, it is seen on almost every page about a county. I would like that someone could calculate the percentages and do the party colors. It would be good too to also add third parties if anyone could find them.

Orphaned references in Hillsborough County, Florida

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Hillsborough County, Florida's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "Census":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 15:24, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
