suggestion

[edit]
  • consider using in-text references
  • consider using less jargon and technical terms!

This is a Good Article

[edit]

After review, I've determined this to be a good article, meeting the qualifications. I appreciate the diagrams and maps, though a map for the Hendra virus outbreaks, in the same style as the Nipah outbreaks, would be a nice touch.

For future improvement, I'd recommend focusing on expanded explanations of technical terms and jargon, limiting their use where possible.

Keep up the good work, and don't hesitate to message me if you want more clarification on my reasons for promotion. Phidauex 18:52, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Misleading description under 'Outbreaks'

[edit]

Under 'July 2008', there is mention to 'the death of one, veterinary surgeon Dr. Ben Cuneen'; this same person is listed as a fatality under '2008 August'. This layout incorrectly implies that these were two separate fatalities. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.2.249.118 (talk) 08:24, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

this has to be one of the hugest coincedenses ever. 1. Nipah 2. Strange outbreak 3. Rural village If this doesn't scream Higurashi, I don't know what does —Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.91.122.179 (talk) 16:33, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tag: Outdated (July 2011)

[edit]

This tag has been added in order to alert those with some time and knowledge to update the article after the first case of a dog catching the virus has been reported. Source and basic description has already been added in the section, 'Outbreaks' but this is inconsistent throughout the rest of the article. YuMaNuMa (talk) 06:47, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved your content to within the specific event it relates to. I have stated updating the rest of the article and will continue to update the rest of the content later. Im a teapot (talk) 07:50, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

teapot is working hard on this article YuMaNuMa, it isn't appropriate to tag it as "outdated" when the new event was reported today. I will put on a proper tag in a moment. Montanabw(talk) 15:16, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This is why I added a specific reason to why I tagged it with outdated, it was the most appropriate way of notifying the main contributors to this article and I get that teapot is working hard on this article, in no way is tagging the the article outdated intended to attack or critise the main contributors to this article.. YuMaNuMa (talk) 02:11, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is it outdated because it was missing an event that had happened hours before or outdated because further more detailed commentary would be useful? If it's the former then no fair! However, I suspect it's the later in which case fair call.

In any event the present tag seems more representative Im a teapot (talk) 14:19, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The intro itself may eventually benefit from a rewrite to not reference any particular current outbreak other than, perhaps, a temporary ref to a specific current crisis. I suspect it was the stuff on Bangladesh from a couple years back in the intro that triggered the original tag. But that's a style issue mostly. I figure you or someone will eventually do that bit of cleanup. Montanabw(talk) 18:48, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I will keep what you said in mind. Thanks for the advice ! YuMaNuMa (talk) 05:39, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cedar virus

[edit]

Anyone clever want to tease out the implications of Cedar? My capacity is undeveloped in this regard and the only good thing about this is that I am aware of my significant limitations. Im a teapot (talk) 13:15, 4 August 2012 (UTC) 13:15, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

proposed merging both Australian maps into one

[edit]

I believe there is not much value in separating the NSW and Queensland maps; If anything, it makes the actual area of concern less easy to visualise... --MarmotteiNoZ 01:54, 25 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you know how to do it, then go for it. It might be useful to put in the capital cities of Sydney and Brisbane as well for orientation. Im a teapot (talk) 13:38, 20 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested split

A split has been proposed to Henipavirus Hendra virus, Nipah virus, Cedar virus by Bueller 007.

Split article

[edit]

Don't disagree with the split, the page was getting unwieldy, but the article should still briefly summarise the subarticles. Also the lead is currently inadequate with more weight on three novel viruses (which are these, exactly?) than Hendra and Nipah. And what does "category C (USDA-HHS overlap) select agents" mean? Is it important enough for the lead? I'm happy to hack this around but I'm no expert in these viruses and someone else might do a better job.

Also I found another henipavirus article at Madagascar henipavirus, which isn't recognised as a species (yet), but (if it is notable enough for a separate article) should be at least mentioned here. Espresso Addict (talk) 01:20, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please check and correct

[edit]

I see "Heandra" reference. I think that should be Hendra, after the suburb of Brisbane, Australia, where the virus was first identified. 89.99.169.44 (talk) 12:16, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
