Too much lists

[edit]

According to me, this site contains too much "dry" lists of "wellknown inhabitants" etc. and not enough impressions of the atmosphere and pictures of the center... Sbashi 20:27, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will add more pictures of the center soon. As for the "dry" list, it is not that of inhabitants: It is not that long, there are cities with much longer lists, and most of the items link to articles.

The architect list definitely needs some work (for instance an article on a well known architect as ‘Jo Coenen’ would be nice as well as links to the buildingsMach10 05:52, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heerlen is a stub

[edit]

Although this article might seem fine, there is a lot of vital information missing, which is very obvious if you comparie it to the dutch wiki site about Heerlen. There is still alot to translate Mach10 07:20, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Accoring to deffinition 2 "Another way to define a stub is an article so incomplete that an editor who knows little or nothing about the topic could improve its content after a superficial Web search or a few minutes in a reference library" this article is a [[1]], if you think otherwise I will need an argument

Expanding Heerlen

[edit]

As you might notice I am trying to expand the Heerlen related subjects in Wiki, for instance Joseph Savelberg (still under construction), Marcel van Grunsven (pretty mutch done), Schelmentoren (still under construction), and Hogeschool Zuyd (pretty mutch done), but I need help! On the website [[2]] there is a list of important heerlen people, but they need to be translated in english, please please help. Afcourse the Heerlen website itself needs help aswell, please people who are good in translating Dutch to English help us! P.s. Do not forget to add the people to the People connected to Heerlen category Mach10

To make life easier I have created a category Heerlen to add to all Heerlen related articles (exept for people connected to Heerlen, who should be added to the above mentioned category). I have also created a stub (Heerlen-stub) te be added to all Heerlen related articles that are un finished. Please help us Mach10 22:57, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
After adding the Template I noticed how much is missing, so I started some of the articles related to that (Grasbroek and Welten) but I don't know everything about every city, village, hamlet, and neigbourhood, please contribute (also the Ten Esschen article from the Dutch wiki [[3]] looks great, we might want to translate that) Mach10 01:38, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Carnaval"

[edit]

Maybe someone could add a paragraph about the carnival in the center of Heerlen, preferably with some pictures?

Michelsberg Culture

[edit]

From the source: "Archeologen hebben in 1997 op de Schelsberg aan de Heerenweg een nederzetting uit de Michelsbergcultuur (4400-3500 v. Chr.) aangetroffen. Thus the sentence "Archeological finds from this period occur almost exclusively in The Netherlands" is incorrect. The orignal "Archeological finds from this period are rather unique in The Netherlands" represents the source better Mach10 10:02, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heerlen is a CITY

[edit]

The article stated that Heerlen was a town as a resident of Heerlen i know that it aint a town. With a history going back to more than 2000 years. (More info.) I know this article isn't giving Heerlen the credits it should get, but i'll try and see when i get time to enhance it. Greetings MuisjeNL (talk) 00:09, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear MuisjeNL, In the Netherlands no distinction is made between a City and a Town (see the http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Town#Netherlands). Also of we use the 'A city is a town with city status (e.g. city rights)' argument, then sadly, Heerlen is a Town, however, as stated in the Netherlands there is no distinction. I am born, raised and still living in Heerlen, but it is important to keep personal feelings out of Wikipedia. Do our lovely city justice by expanding, correcting and creating articles connected to it. A good place to start is the Category:Heerlen, for instance, or adding more on the different villages, cities, hamlets and neighbourhoods.

Welcome aboard! Mach10 (talk) 01:19, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of statue

[edit]

"Statue of Jesus Christ on the Tempsplein, statue by Toon Dupuis with a foot by Drik Roosenburg, revealed October 19, 1924"

What's so special about this statue? Aren't there thoudands like this in other places? Propose to remove the picture and replace it by one of the Glaspalace, in which is more visible, what's special about that building, than is in the picture of it, that's in the article now. (For instance the second or the third in this article: [4]) VKing (talk) 13:55, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The statue itself is not that special, however it has a footing by a renowned International style architect. The Glaspaleis already has several links within the article, and has its own page (if you want to know what is so special you can visit that page). I think to much atention is already given to the Glaspalies, taking atention away from other beautiful buildings in Heerlen (Such as the former HQ of the Oranje Nassau Mijn & the Monseigneur Schrijnen Retreat House). I have to say I am the uploader of the Jesus Pic. Mach10 (talk) 04:21, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
