500 games in 9 years
[edit]Not sure if I wrote it or who did, but 500 games for Warrington is an awful lot of games in nine years. That's more that one a week every week of each year. ?!? doesn't sound right ? -Sticks66 13:37, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- but both the Whiticker and Andrews refs cite this.-Sticks66 12:22, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe a typo? I doubt that it's accurate.--Jeff79 (talk) 12:50, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'm going with over 500 goals, not games. There's no mention of 500 games in the 1992 Andrews but it does mention his prowess as a goal-kicker. See here (scroll down to story 1) for a more accurate number of games and a quick add up of goals kicked is def over 500. •Florrie•leave a note• 12:52, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- ETA The bio at the 100 Greatest Player's says 350 games (in England, not just at Warrington). Found an actual ref for total games at Warrington. [1] and according to this it was over 800 goals! •Florrie•leave a note• 13:00, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
So I checked again. 2006 Andrews does not mention a number of games in England; it's the 2006 Whiticker/Hudson Encyc that does the damage in saying "the burly forward shifted to Warrington and over the next nine years played over 500 games for the club"; the Telegraph lift-out re the Top 100 says 350 games in England and the site Florrie has found above says 346 for Warrington plus the Quigley Era of the Biff site has a per season count that adds to 346. So assuming he played at least 5 games for Barrow it sounds like it was 350 in the UK. I think I will just cite the Warrington 346. It's still a phenomenal figure given it took Terry Lamb 17 seasons to clock 349.Sticks66 12:07, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
