harps
[edit]Hi, I think it's not good to expect the user to type an acronym in uppercase to find it. HARPS would be the first instance in many years that I've had to use all uppercase to find out that an article exists.
If you're a seasoned contributor, can you point me to guidelines where lowercase should make it a word and uppercase should make something an acronym?

Please read: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia%3aDisambiguation
Quote: For example, "Term abc", "Term Abc", "Term Ábç", "Term A-B-C", and "Term A.B.C." should all redirect to one page.
If you direct "harps" to another page as "HARPS", then you violate that guideline. Therefore I'm reverting my edit in "Harps" Rygel (talk) 22:30, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- Good catch. I've redirected HARPS back here as well.--Cúchullain t/c 03:10, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: redirect to Harp JaGatalk 04:46, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Harps should redirect to Harp, with Harps moving to either Harps (disambiguation) or the pre-exisiting Harp (disambiguation). Harps is the the plural of 'Harp' (the instrument), and the clear primary topic (as asserted by the current Harps page itself). A search of Google books for "harps" shows almost all usage refers to the instrument. I just went and fixed the dab links for Harps; there were 22 of which 19 were for the instrument, the remaining 3 are related to Hong Kong Football but I wasn't able to disambiguate them. There also seems to be quite a large number of links, (42 with 38 from article space) to the currently redlinked Harps (football) which I believe might also have to do with the Hong Kong Football Association, but since this page does not exist I am unable to make judgement on whether this topic has any relevance on this move. --France3470 (talk) 23:10, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- Move to harps (disambiguation) or merge to harp (disambiguation) and redirect the current name harps to harp. 184.144.160.156 (talk) 03:15, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Merge to Harp (disambiguation). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 23:24, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- I have text-merged Harps to Harp (disambiguation). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 10:00, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
Oppose move and even merge. This is a classic case where Google searches are irrelevant; Very few will search for harps if they want the article on harp. So the primary topic for our purposes is probably High Accuracy Radial Velocity Planet Searcher, Google notwithstanding. Andrewa (talk) 19:39, 23 March 2011 (UTC)- Neutral (change of vote). Still not the way I'd personally do it but I'll go with the obvious consensus. Andrewa (talk) 15:14, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
- Support redirect to Harp and a merge of the disambiguation content to Harp (disambiguation).--Cúchullain t/c 20:00, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- Support redirect and merge. The instrument "harp" is such a common topic that I think a fair number of users (not necessarily knowing our titling conventions) are going to search for it with the plural. The planet searcher is much more specialized, and people are likely to search for it using the capitalized form HARPS (which does redirect there).--Kotniski (talk) 07:17, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
- Good point re HARPS... that's the most likely search for the astronomical rig. Andrewa (talk) 15:14, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
