Deor

[edit]

This article should also mention the Anglo-Saxon poem Deor which tells of Mæthilde who was rescued from drowning by the harpist Geat following her capture by the demonic River King.

The fact that the mention in Deor is an allusion, shows the story was already well known to the readers. The Deor poem is found in a book written in the the 900s but many of the poems collected are from much earlier. The fact that a Geat is the hero of the poem would suggest it is one of the earlier poems.

This mention in Deor allow Harpans kraft to be dated far back into the early medieval era. Toltecitztli (talk) 01:49, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
