Was Hans Albert the son of Albert's first or second wife? The Albert Einstein article is unclear on this but seems to imply it was the second wife, Mileva. Ryanluck 20:24, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hans was born to Mileva who was Albert Einstein's first wife. Albert Einstein didn't have any children from his second marriage to Elsa. Albert Einstein article does mention all this, although you need to dig a little deep, his family information is scattered throughout the article, there ought to have been a section on it. Albert was known only to have had children with his first wife, Mileva. Hans Albert Einstein was a naturalized American citizen.

Citizenship?

[edit]

The article indicates that Hans Einstein lived in the US from 1938 until his death in 1973, However, his nationality in the info box is given as "Switzerland". Does that mean he never took US citizenship? Even his father Albert Einstein took US citizenship in 1940, while retaining his Swiss citizenship until his death in 1955.--TGC55 (talk) 13:19, 26 April 2008 (UTC)BUT I Kurt Connor from Malta Birkirkara have discovered tht Hans Einstein was Albert Einsteins child from his first woman(that he married. ;)[reply]

The German Wiki article de:Hans_Albert_Einstein on Hans Albert Einstein states:
Er besaß die Staatsbürgerschaft der Schweiz und wurde später auch US-amerikanischer Staatsbürger. which translates to: "He possessed the citizenship of Switzerland and later also became (a) U.S citizen." However, no direct source is given.
The web page [1] written by a professor ("Prof. em. Dr. Dr. h.c. Daniel L. Vischer, Versuchsanstalt für Wasserbau, Hydrologie und Glaziologie, ETH-Zentrum, CH-8092 Zürich") at the Zürich ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) further states:
... dass Hans-Albert bei seiner Geburt 1904 das Zürcher Bürgerrecht seines Vaters erbte und 1943 Amerikaner wurde. Which translates "... that Hans-Albert by his birth (in) 1904 inherited the Zürich citizen rights of his father and (in) 1943 became (an) American." No source is given for this statement, however since the writer of the web site page is indicated as a professor at the ETH, the same school that both Albert and Hans Albert Einstein graduated from, it can be assumed that it is accurate and was sourced but not noted as such.
His biography at the Univ. of California (Berkeley)[2] doesn't state anything about his citizenship, but does say:
In 1938 Professor Einstein immigrated to the United States where he continued his research on the transport of sediment, first at the U.S. Agricultural Experiment Station at Clemson, South Carolina (1938-1943), and later (1943-1947) at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Cooperative Laboratory, California Institute of Technology. Lack of comment or mention about citizenship might be in line with then prevaiing (1973) US attitudes about personal privacy (data protection) or what could be called called "political correctness".
Other web pages don't really indicate anything about Hans Albert's citizenship, however I think it's safe to assume that Hans Albert did receive US citizenship in 1943 based what Dr. Vischer states in his biography of Hans Albert's. I have added US nationality (1943-1973) to the info box.--TGC55 (talk) 14:49, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why is it Evelyn Knecht not Evelyn Einstein? Because she is adopted and has her real parents name. --Bella--
