And it does look to be close, Wadi Hamam had grid no.196/248
This is what Khalidi write on p.545: "All that remains are debris of houses and the remnants of wall. The site is overgrown with thorns, grasses and some trees. Near the site, a new village bearing the same name has been set up by Israelis for Palestininan "internal refugees" from the villages of the Hula-area, especially the village of Al-Muftakhira (in Safad District). These villagers, however, do not own any of the land around the village. Some of this land is used as pasture and some cultivated."
I´m not quite sure if a redir is correct, or if we should have a separate article on Wadi Hamam. However, I have too many sub-standard other articles to fix; I´m not starting another, Huldra (talk) 20:16, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It looks to be the same place. Zochrot got more on this (Hebrew link with more details and the English one, also "And what would your grandfather say?"). The Hebrew link mentions Walid Khalidi (it got same quote) and Noga Kadman as sources. It says the circumstances of the capture of the village and the residents is not available. Not either data on the land and its population. It mentions that European travelers visited it in the 18th and 19th century, who reported the fort but did not mention the villlage. Zochrot says that other sources said the Bedouins lived in the valley.
@Zero0000, Al Ameer son, Huldra, and IRISZOOM: Hi! I'm not sure "Hamaam" is the right title.
1. Is it ḥamām, "dove"? European Christians call the wadi "Valley of the Doves", I thought that to be originally the Arabic name, or isn't it?
2. There are endless pages relating to Khirbet Wadi Hamam; if not well before the digs, then certainly after them "Hamam" has become the norm. If officially it's Hamam, not Wadi Hamam, so be it, but is that a fact?
The English spelling for steam bath is "hammam", so it's enough to drop the double-M to make sure nobody mistakes it for what it's not. Hans Wehr writes it "ḥamām", but that's for philologists. Anyway, I see no need for a double-A. Nobody uses it anyway, except for Wikipedia - and those who look it up before posting :) Or did anyone find an official Israeli administrative document in English using double-A? And even if, who cares?
So, change to "Hamam, Israel"? With autolinks for "Khirbet Wadi Hamam" and "Wadi Hamam" (we might need to add "Galilee" to that in due time, it's a common name, but for now it is ALMOST unique on WP), of course, at least until KWH develops into a separate page.
